Anyone with serious modding experience on the Antec 1200, this question is for you.
I'm looking at tearing down my Antec 1200 and making it into a full fledged server case, I need some help on whether or not this is workable based on the case' structure.
What I have in mind is de-riveting the drive bay/optical bay tower (not the bays themselves, but the structure that holds them all), turning it SIDEWAYS and re-riveting each of the walls at a closer width so that 5 1/2" drive bay converters are not needed, but that the hard drives would simply screw into new holes I drill into the tower structure with it's new width. (so drives would slot in from the back with cabling completely hidden)
The main question I have, since I can't really tear down the case it's currently in use, is it possible to remove the drive/optical bay tower and turn it without completely demolishing the structure integrity of the case? I've looked EVERYWHERE For pictures of it de-riveted, but it seems no one has done that at all anywhere. At this point I'm not sure if that IS the front of the case or if there are metal pillars in front of it that make up the supports (in which the plastic of the case latches onto). Those of you that have taken it down to the bare bones, help!
Why? Well a few reasons. Turning it sideways eliminates a TON of cables inside the business part of the case. It allows me to mount drives with tighter tolerances (probably somewhere towards 18-20 drives instead of 16 (using the 4 3.5" into 3 5 1/2" converters). And...as all modders know, it's something to play with!
I welcome comments/suggestions on how to make this even better or problems I might run into, just keep it constructive
