video card without vram heatsinks

Thread Starter
i got 2 gtx 465 unlocked golden edition with the antec 620 mod on and was wondering if i can run them without the vram hs that came with the cards, also i got 2 120mm fan blowing air on the side of the case to them
im asking this cause im selling the tf2 coolers cause one of them has a broken fan and someone ask if i still have the vram hs to so if it can run it without the vram fine i might sell the vram hs with it to get a little more $$, also i used to have 2 560 ti with tf2 cooler to and they were without vram hs and ran fine

I guess so long as you have 2 120mm fans blowing on them, and you're not overclocking the vram/memory high, I think it might be ok seeing as others with the antec 620 mod have done this with dwood's bracket.

Are you asking if you can run a gpu without vram? No.

Are you asking if you can run a gpu without a heatsink on your vram? Technically yes but by no means should. Such an unnecessary risk.

As far as I know,VRAM doesn't get too hot,so you can probably get away with it,as long as you don't OC it...

But in any case, doing this isn't really recommended, and if I were you,I'd keep the VRAM heatsinks...

At the very least you should be using these or similar at the very least. For some cards they actually make heatsinks that cover the VRAM/Mosfet's and leave the GPU chip bare. They are intended for "universal" GPU water blocks. I do not know if the make one of the "half heat sinks" for your card, or if it will fit with the Antec Waterblock pump combo.

Never had heasinks on my Vram. They're just fine. The actual chips for Vram are rated for like 1.5V operation. If you look at your VDDC its always like a step below your actual clock in afterburner. So for mine, I've got 1.150Vcore on the GPU but 1.137VDDC. That's basically the ram voltage.

Change the title of the thread, because it does look like your asking if you can have a card with no video memory...not the heatsinks...

Your 580 GTX has nothing cooling the VRAM?
