Not to hijack but wanted to share some stuff I had seen. Since I've been in China for awhile, I've learned to utilize TaoBao (a lot like ebay but not really). There's a few people who have taken OEM LCD's from Samsung/Apple and thrown them into their own bezels, some are as cheap as $473

Throw the page into Google Translate and you can see all the details. Seriously considering buying but my fear is the warranty behind it is basically nothing.

Hello,

I have purchased the 30', has been shipped today so expect it will arrive earlyish next week at which point I shall take some photos and write up a review.

The previously linked 30' review that presumably uses a similar panel - http://www.prad.de/new/monitore/test/2012/test-shimian-qh300.html - seems reasonable. Especially considering that particular model is listed at 900 euros and the Leonidas can be had for $698, roughly £250 cheaper (where I come from), albeit with fewer connectors etc.

I went for the 30' as I mainly use my monitor to watch films/tv series and do not really game in the slightest anymore, but I do program so the extra screen space will be very useful in that respect.

Has anyone received delivery? I would be interested in some thoughts on the actual Yamakasi 30' model, rather than similar models that use the same/similar panel.

I am upgrading from a Iiyama ProLite E2407HDS, so expecting quite a big leap in terms of screen space and quality? I am not overly fussy, a 30' monitor at that resolution for the price seems great to me... Maybe I am naive though! tongue.gif

I guess the main issue is that if it turns out to be pants, I will have to try and return it to South Korea. Having said that though, unless it is broken I can't see it being anything but a major improvement on what I currently use at a very reasonable price (have previously considered a Dell 30' purchase).

Just out of interest, which graphics card do people recommend? I currently have a 8800GT as I last upgraded back in 2007, with a Q6600 PC. Assuming I am not doing any heavy gaming, which would be a decent upgrade and is it even required?

I hope I do not live to regret not going for the 27' model...

Cheers,

Tim

welcome to OCN

for 1600p you need a GPU that supports dual-link DVI, and the 8800GT does, so i think you do not need to upgrade given no heavy gaming.

Are there any other companies with these monitors?

For this price buying this monitor is a big mistake witht he only 1 year warranty option and haveing to ship it back all the way on the other side of the Planet..

In this price range people should be looking at the Dell Apple and LG Ips displays.
