YAMAKASI 300 LEONIDAS 30" LCD S-IPS PANEL 2560x1600 - Page 6

post #51 of 204
Looks like a nice monitor, does it have a On Screen Display ?
post #52 of 204
No OSD, just the brightness up and down buttons on the front. Now I'm not a professional but I think the colors are very good from the factory so I really have no need to change any other settings.

Received the monitor earlier, seems good so far other than two rather large issue.
There do appear to be some issues regarding pixels, maybe, they seem to show up on the attached photos. I honestly cannot see them when taking the photos, but they do appear to be there on the black background. The other backgrounds seem OK mind, but I will leave you guys to judge that. Obviously this is very difficult to tell using photographs, but as far as the panel is concerned I am very happy, the bottle of water is a 2 litre bottle, to give you a better idea.

The above is the packaging the monitor came in, no complaints there, well packaged and no damage whatsoever (at least I do not think so, more on this later).
Now onto some 'dead pixel test' I found via a quick Google, blue;
450
Green;
450
Red;
450
White;
450
Black, note a couple of dots and a few smudges of mine;
450
I do not consider the potential pixel problems above, as having played a bit of Crysis 2, tried a couple of films and used it for general use for a couple of hours, I can see no problem with them at all, I think you would have to look for them to find them if that makes sense. Having said that, if knowing they are there annoys you and you look out for them, I can see how that might be an issue.
Now onto the two 'big' issues...
Big issue number one was being hit big by customs/VAT for a combined 30%, which I do not really want to go into. Needless to say I was far from happy, but then that was my own stupid fault for not checking before hand. That is the UK for you. Having done some reading up, I found on another forum that you can pre-arrange something with customs to pay less - as long as you get the guy to write down a customs ID number (not sure on proper name for this number) on outside of package. Needless to say this was all too late for me... Having said that, as most of you are not from the UK I doubt you really care.
For an idea of size;
450
The black box is my work desktop at 1080p, previously that was full screen on my 24" 1080p Iiyama monitor. So the extra space you get is quite considerable.
My next big gripe with the monitor;
450
The panel is tilted to the left, I believe this to be an issue with the stand. I haven't tried fixing it at all, I do plan on removing it from the stand and re-aligning it somehow over the weekend (I am currently working from home and cannot spend too much time on it). But at the moment, as you can see, it does actually look pretty awful and I noticed it straight out of the box. I do wonder if this is to do with it getting bashed during delivery maybe, but then as mentioned above the box looked fine.
It is early days, but assuming I can sort out the tilting issue somehow I would say I am happy with it. I am very please with the panel itself, I see no issue there whatsoever, but the tilting could be a real issue if I cannot find a fix. I would be most unhappy if I have to fork out more cash for another stand, but will be contacting the seller later today with the above image.
Any questions or tests you want me to perform please fire away, I will look to do more tonight but now I have to go back to working, which is far more enjoyable on this monitor it has to be said.

You pay Customs regardless. Everything that is marked as "merchandise" and is imported, you get slapped with import duties. The only way around it is, to buy locally from the UK, ( you still end up paying the 30% VAT that the middle man pays + the middle man's commission, so probably around 40-50% more )

While my 7970 is on it's way to RMA, i have my 5870 eyefinity 6 edition plugged in.

I will probably buy a miniDP -> DVI-D adapter to see if it works.

Hopefully more people can report thier experiences with this monitor, as i just bought one from Green-Sum and am waiting for it to arrive.

I don't think many people have bought these so it's a bit of a gamble, but hey you only live once. smile.gif

Best of luck. Typing this out on my Leonidas, really couldn't be any happier and I hope you get a good one as well. I think most aren't willing to pay the extra for 1600 vs 1440.

Hey WALSRU,

Have you had any issues with heat at all?

Is heat even an issue? The monitor seems to get very warm/hot when I touch the top, not so hot it burns or anything silly like that, but it is noticeable that it lets off a lot heat.
post #57 of 204
My basement stays pretty cool so that might make a difference. I haven't noticed any heat issues with mine but I know it's going to be warmer than my old cheapo LED.
