Koolance Flow meter to display LPH or GPH

So I'm looking for a flow meter for my rig because I want to make sure I'm hitting the 1.5GPH+ mark. I tried using "Martins Pump and Rad Optimizer" but its so out of date with new rads that its useless to me.

So far I know my MCP655 pump can handle my loop but I want to see if its moving it enough. I also want to add my rad stand to it and need to know if I need to change it up and use 2x MCP655s or use 2xMCP350(I have these with the XSPC dual pump top)

MCP655 can run:
EK-Multioption 250
OCZ Highflow CPU block
4x MCR60 Universal GPU blocks
XSPC EX480
XSPC EX360 multiport
EK-Coolstream XLT (140)

Flow is:
Res > Pump > 140 > GPU > GPU > GPU > GPU > 360 > 480 > 360(same one) > Res

If I add my 3x 360 rad stand it will look like this:

Res > Pump > 140 > 360 > 360 > 360 > GPU > GPU > GPU > GPU > 360 > 480 > 360(same one) > Res

The rad stand is about 7 feet off the floor so I have alot of tubing the loop.



The flow meter... Will this do what I want? Will this give me a readout like I want? If not, is there a program that will?

As far as I know, the Koolance flow meter and frequency adapter are supposed to give you readings in terms of mL/min. Basically whatever RPM your fan header "sees" is in mL/min.

You'll have to do the conversions to GPH or LPH yourself. It's not very hard, you just multiply the value by 60/1000 to get the number in LPH.


I'm honestly doubtful that a single Liang D5 will give you greater than 1 GPH flow rates with a loop of that size. That's a ton of GPU blocks coupled with a CPU block and all of those radiators. That's a lot of fittings for all of those blocks too.

Martin's spreadsheet isn't too out of date. Radiators are just a bunch of parallel tubes, use an MCR320 as a worst case stand-in for most any radiator (except a Black Ice GTX).

So it shows 1460-1475 RPM for the flow meter...

60/1000 = .06 * 1475 = 88.5 LPH

88.5 / 3.78 = 23.41 GPH

23.41 / 60 = .39 GPM

That right? That's insanely low.

Makes sense, you've got a ton of tubing, a ton of radiators and a ton of blocks all running off of one pump. I can't even enter that loop into Martin's estimator spreadsheet, it's too big! Your build log shows a lot of elbows and quick disconnects too.

Maybe you should look into an Iwaki pump or at the very least get another D5 like you mentioned in your original post.

Don't get me wrong, I expected it to be low. But I expected it to be closer to .5 GPM.

I took out the 655 and installed 2x DDC-1 using a XSPC dual pump block.

Flow rate went up to .44 GPM, still way too low as I want to get close to 1.5 GPM.


So I'm going to look on PPCs right now and pick up a dual 655 pump top, not sure which one. Hopefully 2 pumps will be enough. If not, I'm gonna have to find some place to put a third.

0.44 GPM sounds very low, I'm running a loop with dual MCP350's that has these components :
Apogee HD cpu block
2 * EK-VGA Supreme HF Bridge Edition universal gpu blocks
Aquaero 5 waterblock
Aquacomputer HF flowmeter
Aquacomputer airplex revolution 420/360 radiator
EK-CoolStream RAD XTC (140)

So I have couple of gpu blocks less but all my blocks are more restrictive. With all those blocks and radiators flow rate is still 1.3 GPM.

for 1.5 GPM you need LOTS of pumping power

i have raystorm+2x 580 hydrocopper + EX360+RX360+RX480 and with 2x PMP400 @ MAX (noisy) the koolance flow meter says 4400rpm, so i have 260 LT/H or 1.16GPM (never use the pumps with this settings because are too noisy for me), at 70% of power i have 3350rpmm or 0.90GPM, so i think is normal that with a single D5 that as much greater flow rate than the DDC, but lower head pressure, you have a really low flow rate with lots of waterblock.

if you want 1.5gpm you must put many pumps in series or choose a powerful pump, like a SANSO PDH 054 IT9 24V for example:

* power req. 24V cc
* max consumption 2,3 A
* motor's power 55 W
* head pressure 19 mt
* flow rate 600 lt/h

with a really powerful head pressure of 19mt (a DDC like the PMP400 has 8.7mt....) you can run lots of waterblock-radiators-tubing without big loss in flow rate.

but as far as i know this pump is sold only by an italian watercooling shop:

Ya, again it seems lower than expected. I have 2x MCP355 that I will try tonight and if that does not show a mark improvement, then I'll order a dual D5/655 pump top.

The only reason the dual bay dual pump res sounds apealing is because if it still isn't enough, I can add the dual DDC pumps to the loop to help out.

Dual D5's have lower head pressure than dual MCP355's so you will be wasting your money for nothing if you expect to get a higher flow rate with them.
