Thread Starter
hey guys, man i have tried to research this on my own, but i can't get any solid info.
i want to add a wifi card to my desktop (939 pin) so i can use my rarzr maxx to wifi tether my internet. when i use a usb tether i get maybe 1mb download, when i do wifi tether i get around 10mb. so if there is a wifi card i can add to my desktop to make it act like a laptop wifi, please let me know.
thanks for all your help!

I''m not quite sure what you're asking? There is no difference between wifi used by a laptop and wifi used by a desktop, they use the same 802.11 standards. How are you planning on connecting the card (PCI, PCIe, USB, etc)?

RE: wifi in desktop or buy laptop

You're trying to get internet to your desktop or to your razr? If you're trying to get connectivity to use wifi on your razr then just buy a wireless access point to plug into your router, otherwise if I understood incorrectly then and wifi card you put into your desktop will function just like a laptop once the drivers are installed.

Really i don't care. The fastest way possible. I assume the usb method would as slow as a tethered usb cord, but i really don't know. I cant see to find any data on which way is faster/ better. I have open spots on the MoBo so i plenty of options. I simply want my desktop to have wifi that equals (or better if possible) than a ipad or laptop. Would any of the pci cards on newegg work like i am hoping?

As said above a PCI-e x1 or if you don't have one of those slots on your motherboard a regular PCI wifi adapter will be your best bet.

Something like this linksys at newegg perhaps but maybe you can find something cheaper.

So that will work like i think it would. Are all of them the same speed? I guess i look for a good cheap one then.
Just to clarify, I'm using the 4G internet from my Razar Maxx and want to connect it to my desktop via wifi because the usb tethered internet is too slow.
Thanks a ton! I'll get a pci card and be all smiles!

I would think the usb would be slower. With it hooked up by a cord i get super slow internet (1mb).

Okay, i admit it, I'm a tard. I looked that adapter. Seems perfect. When u mentioned they're cheaper ones, i couldn't find one with the same specks. I have no idea if i need 300mbs or 600mbs. When i checked my phone with a laptop in my living room, it read 3mbs download and 9+ mbs upload.
I'm going to ask this, pick out the cheapest best performance based one, and I'll buy it. I don't know what speed is best for me either.
My wifi card is in your hands.....
