Review proposed watercooling build

Thread Starter
Hello,

Looking for some advice on a build I am putting together for water cooling. I think I might be getting near the edge of what I can dissipate, but seeing what the great veterans here think who know more about watercooling as I have limited experience in it. Hoping that the combo of the top 360 push/pull with the extremely thick 240 push/pull will be able to sufficiently cool all the components. I could look into putting a 120/140mm RAD as well at the back of the case, but would prefer not to. Let me know your thoughts, and thanks for taking the time to review.

Rig will be used for gaming, high quality photo rendering, and multiple VM's running.

Computer Components for build:
Intel i7 3930K CPU - Clocked to ~4.5ghz
Asus Rampage IV Extreme
32gb Corsair Dominator 4x8gb 1600mhz
2x Corsair 240gb Force GT SSD Raid-0
Corsair AX1200 PSU
2x EVGA GTX680 4GB
2x Undetermined HDD's for large storage of raw image files.

Case:
CM Cosmos II

Water Cooling Parts:
Top Radiator assembly:
Black Ice GT Stealth 360 - (Need a thin top rad due to the Cosmos II lack of clearance between MB and top of case, chose this so I can run push/pull as I think that will have better benefit than a rad with an extra 4-5mm of thickness)
3x Scythe GT 1850rpm AP-15 Pull
3x Scythe Kaze-Jyuni 2000rpm 12mm Push - (Just barely will fit between MB and rad)
3x Phobya Shroud for GT AP-15's 7mm

Bottom Radiator Assembly
Alphacool NexXxos Monsta 80mm 240
2x Scythe GT 1850rpm AP-15 Push
2x Scythe GT 1850rpm AP-15 Pull
4x Phobya Shrouds 7mm

CPU Block:
EK Supremacy Nickel

GPU Block:
2x EK 680GTX CSQ Nickel Blocks

MB Chipset Block:
EK RIVE Full Board Cooling kit

Reservoir:
Danger Den RAD RES-005

Pump:
Swiftech MCP655 Variable Speed
Bitspower D5 pump top mod Acetal

Tubing:
Clear 1/2-3/4 Tubing - Tygon or Danger Den or "x" brand

Fittings:
Compression fittings/rotary as needed for tube routing and ascetics

I think you can dissipate the heat with that setup just fine, but it won't be very quiet with all those higher speed fans.

Will be using a fan controller to keep them in check outside of benchmarks and such. They are pretty quiet (the AP-15s anways) below 70% max RPM so wont be too big an issue.

Thanks for the input!

Was worried the pump might not be enough for all that and might have to go with a double.

Indeed you have chosen some great rad for your setup and they are more then enough to cool what you got but please get some lower RPM fans or you will go deaf rolleyes.gif Some fans in the 1000-1400 should provide ample air flow to for thous radiators.

Edit: Even if you use a fan controller thous Scythe Kaze-Jyuni 2000rpm are overkill and getting them to spin up on very low voltage/rpm will be an issue. Also its generaly a bad idea to have different kinds of fans in push and pull. I suggest you run push or pull only on the top rad.

For AP-15s, save some money and skip the shrouds. They don't gain you anything on AP-15s.

If you need help deciding on fittings or tubing, you can try getting some monsoon compression fittings

They are pretty good quality, and are the only compressions that come in a variety of colors as far as i know,

I think people are starting to like durlene tubing, but I don't know much about it.

Good Point on the fan voltages. I have all the AP-15's already, so recycling them from previous build into this one, hence wanting to use them as they are good fans. Why is it bad to mix the fans out of curiosity? Not questioning your statement, just interested on the effect. Thanks!

Thank you, I didnt know the shrouds would not have an effect on this.

Going to have a red theme for cabling and some red Mayhems Dye to be seen in the clear tubing and in the translucent blocks, so matching fittings would be great, didnt know those existed outside of black/chrome. Will take a look into that.

As they have mentioned above, having push fans of one brand/speed and pull fans of another will create a very awful noise. AP-15s don't play nice with other fans, and for the noise/benefit ratio, you will be far better off with just the AP15s in push or pull. With that in mind, consider maybe getting a slightly thicker radiator as the shrouds on GTs (pointed out above) are almost pointless. Make sure to check out Skinnee/Martin for radiator tips and recommendations, they have quite a plethora of knowledge on hand and are very trusted!

the 655 pump should be plenty fine, none of those blocks are entirely TOO Restrictive (like the swiftech Apogee). For tubing, duralene all the way! Check out this thread for plasticizer problems (something you can avoid with duralene)
http://www.overclock.net/t/1199158/plasticizer-problems-discussion-gallery

As far as fittings go, monsoon's aren't cheap, but they can be pretty when done. If the cost doesn't deter you, go for it! If not, a nice set of matte barbs/compressions would look killer with the red as a contrast thumb.gif

Also don't forget a killcoil to go with that distilled + mayhem, $4.99 for peace of mind is always a good thing!

Also also check out Koolance radiator studs for mounting fans, Caedder (a prominent member in the WC community) uses them and loves them for ease of access/cleaning thumb.gif
