Remeber that both cards are going to get boosted to 1ghz, so the gap (big or tiny) remains..

ah fix to the prices is needed, also some filler cards too to balance performance and price better; (too big steps between some cards)

He means that the GHz 7950 will be as fast as the vanilla 7970.

I would be interested to see if they can put out a card that does 1GHz on stock voltage, my 7950 needed a slight bump to stay stable at 1GHz. On the other hand that slight bump took it to 1100MHz and I was not even trying.

Lol, that is a picture of the reference HD7870. Here's a comparison of the pics for reference:

In fact, if you look closely at the writting on the side around the letter "D" in radeon, both pictures have the same reflection on the side of the card. Not only is that a 7870, it's the same exact photograph!

OK, so the pic is fake (nice catch PureBlackFire), but how about the rumour?

A 7950 GHz kind of makes sense - it would put it closer to the 670 and would tie in nicely with their other "GHz" cards.

I'm just not sure if they can reliably push it that hard without a bump to the voltage, which may end up requiring better VRM cooling (the central fan reference cooler doesn't contact the VRMs).

Well GingerJohn, the rumor was (according to the source) entirely based on the picture. I agree that the 7950 should get a bump to the 950-1000mhz range.
