Which could be anything really - even a 7970 Because-we-feel-like-it version....

I guess they meant the fourth in the 7900 series. I see the source is the same guy who posted the gtx660/660ti/670se rumors. It's a good look if it comes out, but seeing how AMD gave the 7970 a price increase to go with the reference clock increase, I would definitely not care for a $400+ 7950. The 7970ghz edition has yet to prove anything more than a factory overclock for $30 more than the normal premium. As for the whole gpu boost, I had enough of that mess with my 670 and I doubt AMD will employ such a tactic.

Sadly my 7950 was a $400+ card... Canadian prices, tax and buying close to release ends up being costly.

Agreed, I would never bother buying a GHz edition, especially not when my reference card is sitting at 1100 right now - free of charge!

There was speculation that the 7970 GHz edition would be higher binned chips, but that didn't really pan out.

A 7950 GHz kind of makes sense - it would put it closer to the 670 and would tie in nicely with their other "GHz" cards.
I'm just not sure if they can reliably push it that hard without a bump to the voltage, which may end up requiring better VRM cooling (the central fan reference cooler doesn't contact the VRMs).

I would be interested to see if they can put out a card that does 1GHz on stock voltage, my 7950 needed a slight bump to stay stable at 1GHz. On the other hand that slight bump took it to 1100MHz and I was not even trying.

Weren't they able to increase the 7970 to 1GHz without increasing voltage??? Why wouldn't they be able to do the same with the 7950???

No reason why it couldn't, I was just wondering if it were possible. Purely from my experience of OC'ing my 7950, I needed a slight bump to the voltage to hit 1GHz.

Besides that:

7970 reference clocks were 925MHz

7950 stock clocks are 810MHz

75MHz is a smaller step than 190MHz
