Opteron problems - Page 3

Just throw it on a divider and you're set

Dividers have *very* little affect on K8 performance

My current 165 tops out at 2.4Ghz as well I've tried everything, Core 0 is just plain weak. I know my board/memory aren't the issue, as I routinely tested some 144's at 2.7+ Ghz a few months ago. I've tried tweaking timings, dividers, all that good jazz, and nothing. Some chips are good, some chips are bad - I guess that's the risk we take with overclocking!

What stepping did you get? I'm currently running at 2.55...I can get it up to 2.58ish and it stays stable..As soon as I hit 2.6, I start having issues. I know I should be able to get higher..I think it's issues with my RAM, but I honestly don't know how to change the timings like I should have them.

I just got my 165 yesterday, so I still have a lot of tweaking to do, so we'll see if I can eventually figure it out. Just expect to see a lot of annoying post asking questions around for the next couple of weeks.

It's all about steppings. Some steppings are rather bad, even on Opterons.

ok heres the secret...when I first got my Opty 165, I quickly tested it to see if I could get 2.8 out of it (my goal), it took 1.45 volts, when I primed Core0 would always fail. What I did was undervolt the CPU for about 4wks, I started at 2.6 with 1.25volts, I slowly worked up the bus, where after a few months I was running 2.8@1.35volts, and Core0 was stable, of course after 4months of patience and knowing I was going Conroe, I started jacking it up from 2.8 to 2.9@1.45volts, I shouldve continued slowly. The key is be patient, and slowly work up your OC for best results.

lol, my goal was 2.8 as well..right now I'll just be happy with 2.6 though, which I can't get.

drop your ram to 133 and the timings to 3-3-3-8...your vcore to 1.35 and your ram to 2.8v...then try it...if your running at 166 then ya gonna have a problem kingston value ram is kinda quirky when ya oc @166 for some reason so you might have some kookoo ram..lol.... when ya can't boot "THEN" up your vcore to 1.375..
