WDGS - What did Google say?

Most people are intuitive enough the rely on a search engine. Most turn to commercials or a saleman.

Remember, the guy earlier was calling a plastic $1k Asus the MBP "equivalent" for less (lol). The Asus looked an awful lot like mine (ie plastic) and had a 1366x768 resolution.

And until 2012 Apple was replacing the top case free of charge for the original owner. So if in december of 2011 my 07 MB had a cracked case I got a new upper case, and if it was the third time I got a new computer.

They still are. I got the topcase and screen bezel replaced for free last week on my 2007 Macbook. That also means I have a new keyboard and trackpad thumb.gif

I find Apples popularity to be disappointing, it's not because I feel they are stupid for spending so much money but because I feel like there are so many better options if people would just be more willing to learn to use a more complex system. I can kind of get the laptop market but desktops and mobile devices have such better options.

I still think its funny to see people on a forum talk about cost vs benefits when so many are shelling out close to $1k to get fancy gpu's for something as silly as a video game.

Yes the expensive gpu situation is a hoot.I simply like the OSX operating system for file management duties, for me it works best. Now if only I could get this OS in an approved package, and this "package" did not cost so much.

+1. Most of the stuff I have could be considered a waste of money to a lot of people. Same with a lot of other members here; its all overkill. If someone wants to pay a little more for a particular brand that they like, more power to them.

Curb side appeal. tongue.gif

I thought of buying a mac tower, but I found out I could build a Windows PC that would mop the floor with it for the same cost, lol. Additionally I would have more options for hardware, software, etc. Macs are pretty, and if can afford one, good for you, but I don't think most people that buy mac are into the whole "price vs performance" debate.

A lot of people think of macs as more reliable, but I saw just as many people at the apple store with broken computers as I did at Micro Center's knowledge bar, biggrin.gif. Cell phones are a different story. I enjoy my iPhone more than any other phone I have owned, simply because I don't like to be aggravated with a device that I use so often.

you say a little more, but as the numbers have shown (799vs1799), that is a 225% increase in price. If gas went up frmo $4 to $9, i think we'd all poop bricks and buy bicycles

but the point here is that it isn't overkill. A more realistic example would be if an MSI 680 was $400(pc) and a EVGA 680 was $900(mac). You'd be hard pressed to find tons of people flocking to the evga if it performed exactly the same, but had a supposed better control software that came with it

And as for the /wrangler comparison, comparing vehicles highly depends upon looks, along with performance. A mac looks no better (to most) and performs no better, again not justifying the overpricing.

People in Europe seem to still drive a lot with $9 a gallon gas. Just saying.

Anyway, if you want to believe that comparison, go ahead, but its misleading. So they share some of the same hardware, that's a fact, but its not identical. The Macbook is built better, arguably comes with better software pre-packaged into the OS, is backed up by far better customer support than most other competing companies and has an OS that is easier to use than Windows for people who do not use their computer for hours on end every day.

Also, a Mac user is far less likely to get malware/viruses than if they were using a computer running Windows. Yeah, its due to the market share, but you can't discount that as a selling point as well. They do look much better than your average Windows laptop as well, maybe not to you for whatever reason, but I'd imagine the general public thinks so.

The problem here is people on this site are either too stupid or just choose not to look at the bigger picture. There's more to a pre built machine than the hardware inside.
