Samsung Galaxy S3 Case Suggestions

Hey all,

After losing my long lived Desire in an unexpected way, I waited for a month until I could get my upgrade. Now have the Galaxy S3 winging towards me smile.gif

So I'd greatly appreciate if you guys could tell me what cases you enjoy and why, or maybe just throw some suggestions my way.

Currently I'm looking to get the Rock Quicksand case, either the grey or the dark grey/black. Ideally I'd get a flip case or something to protect the phone and the screen, however there don't seem to be any nice ones out yet so I might wait it out unless people have any suggestions?

On a side note, I'm looking to get a screen protector as well. Looking at Zagg's invisibleSHIELD, mainly due to the lifetime guarantee. I'll probably take it off if I manage to find a nice flip case, but I've got people it can go to. Are there any alternatives to this or any that better it? Not really interested in really cheap ones as I've had friends and family get them before and they never feel great and always come off.

tl;dr
  • Case suggestions for a flip case or thoughts on the Rock Quicksand.
  • Alternatives to invisibleSHIELD or anything better?

I use a ZAGG HD Screen Protector, much smoother and not sticky compared to the original ZAGG.

I have a simple case on nothing drastic.

The case was 10 bucks free shipping from amazon. Im going to be getting a extended battery (when a reputable company makes them) so i didnt want to spend alot on a case.

I like the case since it protects the edges and keeps the attractive design of the phone.

Ah cool, will take a look at that screen protector.

Nice case thumb.gif I'm just not a huge fan of gel cases. They add too much bulk if you ask me.

for full cover skins I suggest XO skins, skinomi or armor suit as they have less orange peel compared to Zagg. (orange peel is that texture wavy look you sometime see on "wet protector" applications)

cases I suggest getting a Rearth case as they're pretty slim and add minimal bulk to a phone.

I'm all for TPU (gel) cases. Unbreakable, extremely durable, very protective against bangs and scratches (all-round the phone), very thin, water resistant, great grip and very cheap. They also come in lots of colours. I bought a clear-coloured one for my Samsung Galaxy S3 with a perfectly-cut screen protector for £0.99 on eBay. My wife bought the same but in pink for her Samsung Galaxy S3. They now go for about £2.79 but hey, even then it's a steal.

At the end of the day, you can get sucked into paying £10 to £20 for a case that you might think looks more sophisticated but the reality is that it will probably not protect the phone much at all (at least against bangs as they aren't soft), they distract too much from the phone's already beautiful shape and on top of that, they can break quite easily. Like those "leather flip magnetic-lock" cases. The plastic tabs that hold the phone in place break VERY easily and then the case becomes utterly useless as a result.

TPU cases, and you will never look back! tongue.gif

Hey all, sorry for the late reply. The S3 ended up getting here sooner than I thought. Went and grabbed a Zagg Invisibleshield as it was readily available and still looking at the Rock Quicksand.

Not a huge fan of TPU cases, they just add too much bulk if you ask me. Mainly just looking to protect the back and sides from scratches etc. I don't tend to drop my phones so I should be ok in that respect.

Thanks though.

The invisibleshield is actually a lot better than I thought it'd be. Not as sticky as I thought it'd be, fingers slide across easily only really getting bogged down if you press hard and drag. The orange peel effect is only noticeable if there is screen glare from a light source or if you're really looking for it.

Will look in to those brands mentioned though. My sister wants to get an S3 now so all these tips will go to help someone smile.gif

Have this for my S3. It has a screen protector actually built into to part of it... It's a two piece setup. You can separate the pieces and just use the inner shell/screen protector but when you think you need it pop it back into the outer shell. Its basically an Otterbox wannabe... I really like mine but I am really tough on my phones being on the local fire department and ambulance....

Yeah my friend ordered one on Amazon and it looks and feels really nice and it makes it feel very compact.

That one looks kinda funky. Does it fit well in your hand?

I have purchased Otterbox cases for all my phones that I have had and have now. They protect the phone better than anything else, including those leather cases that seem to always have something in the way of the mouthpiece. I have dropped my smartphones, knocked them around in my purse, done everything I shouldn't do with a smartphone....They stand up to everything. The colors are intense and sassy with a great feel to them. They stay in your hand easily with a slight grip-feel. I wouldn't have a phone without one of these rockin' hot skins on it.
