If you do end up buying that Yamasaki catleap monitor (they are excellent) i might suggest going with the AMD 7970 instead of a 670/680.

In terms of performance the 7970 and 680 are extremely close, but the 7970 does perform better with higher resolution monitors like that catleap.

A single 670 did surprisingly well with my Crossover 27Q (they are excellent as well). It handled all my games very well, BF3 ultra in large multiplayer maps, Metro 2033, Arkham City...all never dropping low enough to be choppy or unplayable, while keeping all the settings cranked up. Getting my second 670 wasn't really necessary, but it's nice to have it to go even higher, and I like to bench.

No it is more game dependent at 1440p (it will perform better with multiple monitor resolutions though). But a GTX 670 at 1600p will perform about the same as a 7970. They will flip-flop depending on games. But a majority of the time, a GTX 670 will have better minimum frame rate, which will result in less FPS lag.

I'd say for the time being one would be plenty for any modern highend GPU, you'll be playing everything on ultra for some time with room for AA and other eyecandy.

Edit: here's a GPU comparison between the 7970 and 670 Link. As Ironman said it depends on the games you play, and while the 970 does do well at 1600P the 7970 does better.

2nd Edit: the addition VRAM on the 7970 will also help you out in a few years as it has 3 GB compared to the 670's 2 GB/

Either of them are excellent choices, I just believe that the 7970 is slightly better in your case.

own a catpleap Q270 and an evga670, the GPUram doesn't cap out even with a modded skyrm, that being said - once the next gen systems launch and developers have more to work with, it probably will though.

The only plastic on my small-mid tower Lian Li is the window and plastic housing for the front panel - and even then its the high-end rubbery plastic. It cost over $200CAD. The PC-8FIB I had before is the same, minus the window and it cost $175CAD.
