Except, the point is that it DOES, which, you should have known after reading through the threads. Microsoft wants to prevent pirates from using xbox live. A modified ODD allows people to play pirated xbox games, so banning users with modded ODD prevents use of xbox live. Of course, some legitimate people just repairing their ODD would get caught, but most are not legitimate (or so the thinking goes).

Microsoft doesn't know that. Their systems just see a /modified/ DVD drive pop up and flag the console.

IMO, they could have made their game discs more secure, and not the console hardware itself. Making replacing DVD drives, fans, etc more pratical. But they're greedy and want you to buy a whole new console when those parts die.

You don't get caught with LT3.0, they've got all security bypassed. That is, if your using properly made discs. That was the point of LT 3.0, to be able to play backups without any hassle. I think it's AP 2.5 proof as well as the "last" ditch effort, they found out about a non-used protection call and already patched it incase of new updates. So basically, on the DVD front MS lost all protection.

Greedy? Not realy. You could send in to them free of charge and wait about a month for them to send you one. A month is awhile, but play some PC games in the meantime or something. That's what I did when my xbox broke.

Wow that's pretty extreme. They can do that in the UK? That would never fly over here.

Laws are not universal, each and every Country and jurisdiction has its own legislation that it enforces with laws. While B-rock's post may be on point where he is located, it is not even close in other Countries and jurisdictions.

B-rock's post lies heavily in the belief that an EULA is a contract, and in some Countries and jurisdictions, that may be so.

But as I said in my earlier post, an EULA IS NOT a legally binding contract in Australia.
