HD 7950s for USD 300 - 350 are not going to be available for a long time. the resellers are clearing stock ahead of the Radeon HD 7950 Ghz launch.

http://www.guru3d.com/news/radeon-hd-7950-ghz-edition-coming-as-well/

the launch of Radeon HD 7950 Ghz edition is due in a few weeks , late July or early August. So anybody who wants a HD 7950 at these low prices should grab it when its available.
the GTX 660 Ti will compete against HD 7870. the effect of the 192 bit memory and 24 ROP on performance is going to be almost proportional. Since GTX 680 is well balanced in terms of ROP, bandwidth and shader perf , a 25% cut in memory bandwidth and ROP is going to hit performance almost proportionally . So perf in HD 7870 - GTX 580 range can be expected.

Well to be honest after seeing those Benchmarks of the GTX 670 with 680 also the FPS difference between 670 and HD 7950 and also the HD7870, plus with that leaked info speculation that the GTX 660Ti will launch on August 16th and that it's performance will be on par with the HD 7950, we can safely assume that the performance of the normal 660 will be on par with the HD 7870 or maybe above it, who knows what NVIDIA might come up next with.

Thats if you dont buy into the hype that the 680 is actually the mid ranged card for this gen and GK110 got pulled (which is a lie but beside the point)
I would genuinely wait until HD 8xxx and GTX 7xx to upgrade. That's what I am doing. Worst comes to worst we can pick up a GTX 6xx or HD 7xxx from someone here a heck of a lot cheaper.

I think I'll do that.

But on a more extreme scale. I probably won't shell out more money for a GPU until Nvidia's 800 or 900 series. I'll be going to college in 2 years, so maybe I'll pick something up then. If not then, then once I graduate. I doubt I'll have the time to enjoy my computer much during my years there.

At least I think. One can hope. rolleyes.gif

Sure the card will scream even if it shares the same bus width as a GTS 450.

The Fermi memory controllers are broken.
With at least a 25% reduction in ROP and bandwidth, this card will most certainly perform worse than the GTX 580, every point of data from reviews points to the GTX 680 being mostly limited by ROPs or bandwidth (depending on the game) as a 12.5% reduction in shading and texturing doesn't even make a dent in the performance of the GTX 670.

I don't care about theoretical performance, I never based my supporting argument on it, you did.

How does this reinforce your original assertion that 'because it has 192-bit Bus and less ROPs, that it will be slower than a GTX 570'? Especially considering a 192-bit Bus hardly matters when the memory could be clocked at 6.8Gbps effective(doubt it will be clocked this high, though)

The ROPs are completely different as well as the shaders, so basing any comparison on that is invalid.

I said lower than 570 performance levels if the clocks were lowered compared to the GTX 670 (by at least 50MHz core clock and 100MHz memory clock.)
If this thing gets clocked at GTX 680-levels, we'll surely be seeing competetive performance against the 7870 and probably the 7950 as well.

I'm not comparing the ROPs of Fermi to the ROPs of Kepler, neither am I comparing TMUs, scheduling, shaders or other parts of a GPU between architectures either. I did not base my assumptions off theorhetical performance any more than you have done either.

You're saying this thing will be noticeably faster than the GTX 570, I doubt that because you need more than 15% for a performance difference to be noticeable.
