How's this build looking [note: intel will not be listened to at all]

Thread Starter
Ok got a build lined up for my friend who wanted some help. I have a few different versions of the same build what do you guys think, is it balanced will he be able to do all he wants with it, that kind of stuff.
He wants primarily to video and photo edit, second is to play games at decent(mid/high0 settings on 1x1080p monitor, lastly he wants storage.
unless I've forgotten something he requires,
CPU - Right now have a BD cpu but will most likely wait till PD
GPU
PSU
MOBO
HDD
SSD
MOUSE - this he has picked out and I can not change
KEYBOARD
OS
RAM
DRIVEBAY
AFTERMARKET COOLING

atm the budget is $800-$900 here is the general build idea: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
376

there are $60 mail-in-rebate so the total cost would come to..... about $838. (b4 any combo deals)
I can also get up to $30 by buying 2 parts from micro center... so cost is $808 (before any kind of combos)

Now that has no aftermarket cooling at all and we of coarse want to overclock this biggrin.gif So I have 3 ideas
1. Grab 2 Antec 620 Kuhlers ($120) and do "the red mod" with the help of the always awesome Dwood and hope that combo deals can make up for the extra $ that would be spent wink.gif
2. Grab 1 Antec 620 and only use on the cpu, in which case we would be right on budget,
3. Grab 1 Antec 620 and 1 CM hyper 212 evo and with combo most likely be on budget rolleyes.gif

Ok so what do you guys think? balanced? horrid? beautiful?
lol just chat with me to figure out the good/bad/ugly. and make an awesome build

*also note any intel suggestion will be ignored, I will in fact pretend they do not exist and will not respond to them and I ask everyone else who posts here to do the same. TY.

Good looking build, Two things that I would change are:

A : I would go with some faster memory. You cant go wrong with the $50/8GB Samsung 30 nm WonderRAM.

B: I would go with a 6870 instead of the 7770. You can get them for ~$150 these days. Even a 6850 for ~$125 will blow away that 7770. For that matter, even one of my 6790's (same Barts 256 bit GPU and card as 6850/70) that you can get for $100 would match or beat that 7770.

P.S> This is of course Tom's, so they bench a bunch of ~$100-$150 AMD cards and then toss in a $300 Nvidia card , just to make sure they don't ever have a graph showing an AMD product on top. rolleyes.gif

1st take off the OS you can use this:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/release-preview

Windows 8 and in Jan he can upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for 40$

Second .... SSD are over priced and not really worth it if he is doing video editing ... save the money and get a 3tb hdd for 189$

third, u only need a 400 watt PSU for what you are building ... my 7970 and quad core IB only pulls 389 at peek use ... PSU is over kill get a SeaSonic for 50$ that is in the 400 watt range

351

This is the best build for what he wants to do smile.gif And there is 15$ off everything ... and he has the BEST GAMING/RENDERING RIG EVER!!!! All you need to do is buy a little but it of ram!!! That CPU is the 3770k with out the 350$ price tag smile.gif 40$ more ram is that ....

TOTAL PRICE WITH OUT RAM 874$ with ram 910 or something...

BUT this is the best build you could do unless u wanted to spend in the 2000+ range smile.gif nothing would touch it!

I would mabey go for a 2x4Gb kit running at 1600mhz or 1866 instead of 1333, Also mabey go for a Blue or black Western Digital drive , Surposedly Green drives are quiter but dont perform aswell.

The Rest of the Build sounds Fine biggrin.gif

Not true the 7770 is right in the middle of the 6850 and the 6870 man ...

i did think about the 6870 and usually i would agree but the 7770 takes much less power( and is now pretty cheap i think) and appears to scale very very well in crossfire

the elder scrolls is kinda wierd as it has been shown to be more cpu intensive the gpu.

also to ppl suggesting I get a 400W or 500W for $50-$60 do you realize I have selected a 600W that after mail in rebate is $50? why suggest i pay the same for less?

The "don't get an SSD" advice is kookoo stone-age wrong as is the assertion that a 7770 performs as well as a 6870. The 7770 is pretty good, and uses less juice than a 6870. It isn't a bad choice, it just is not the best bang for the buck in a GPU right now.

7770

6870

The 7770 only beats a 6870 in Kookoo Baquwardzo World.
