Should I get a used dell u2410?

Thread Starter
Are used monitors any different from new monitors (assuming they have no visible wear)? I'm looking at getting the Dell u2410 for gaming and internet browsing. I'm not a professional. Do monitors wear over time, and if so, what will this affect? Also, for gaming, about what brightness level should I use? And will this monitor be able to display over 60fps, because I've seen specifications saying that it will display 30~70fps, so what does that mean? Also, is there any reason to get the u2412m? Right now I have the dell sx2210 (21.5" 1080p tn). Thank you.

I think the U2312HM may be better to get for gaming and casual uses for the money. U2410 is better with proper color calibration for photography. There might be a little less IPS glow from the sides on the U2410. Blacks and contrast are better on U2410.

Keep in mind U2312HM is 16:9 1920x1080 wheras U2410 is 16:10 1920x1200.

The U2410 sucks vs. newer models, it has poor contrast/blacks and many often suffer from noticeable tinting (green or pink tint on each side of the screen). It is also wide gamut=over saturated and unnaturally colors in games and movies (people will look like they are sun burned). It does have an sRGB mode but decent sub 200$ IPS will offer superior color quality.

Get a new Dell U2412, it has much, much better contrast/blacks and its colour space is sRGB, so games and movies will look normal, it also has low input lag.

Typically displays brightness decreases over time, but usually it takes a few years for the brightness to decrease a noticeable amount, and this should be a non issue unless you like using displays at maximum the brightness.

The U2410 and U2412 are 60hz displays, frame rates are dependant on the power of components in your PC. Since you have a 670, if you disable Vsync you should get over 60fps in most games, but 60hz displays tear when displaying over 60fps.

The u2410 costs around $225 for a more used one, $340 or more for a new one, the u2412m costs $250 or more. This is probably because it hasn't been around for as long so there's less used ones and they haven't been used as much. So they're pretty similar in price. I'm looking on ebay: u2410- http://www.ebay.com/csc/i.html?_lncat=0&_sacat=0&_nkw=u2410&LH_Complete=1&rt=nc and u2410m- http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=u2412m&_sacat=0&_odkw=u2410&_lncat=0&_osacat=0&LH_Complete=1
And the issue tuba was talking about was fixed in revisions 1 and 2.
