$350 CPU/Mobo budget....

Thread Starter
Well the title pretty well sums it up. I have built numerous AMD systems for myself over the last 8 years, but with the huge disappointment that was Bulldozer I cannot keep holding my PC back. I know I want to pick up another 580 later this year, and an AMD processor would not do 580 SLI justice. So basically I want to know what the best CPU and motherboard combo I can get for $350. I am unsure whether to get a 2400 and spend more on mobo, or 2500k and spend less on mobo. And the rest of the specs for the system are what's in my Sig rig. I'm only changing CPU and mobo.

If you're a fan of the Total War series, an ivy bridge CPU would be better.

^^This, if you are feeling a urge to spend more you can upgrade the mobo to a Gigabyte UD5

Thanks for the advice. I actually ended up spending a little bit more and going with a 3570K and an ASRock Z77 Extreme4. Some would call me crazy for choosing that over Asus, but in the past I have had better experience with ASRock products than Asus. Plus they had a pretty good combo on newegg. Now I can't wait until these and my new 670s get here. biggrin.gif:D:D

I switched from Asus to Asrock and haven't looked back.

The asrock extreme 4 has +2 Sata 6Gbps ports +1 eSata port & 8+4 phase power delivery system Over thet entry level Asus board

I would go with the Asrock

you did better. the asus motherboards in this price range are some of the worst choices all around. the vrms are so skimpy with no cooling on them either. you don't want to buy any asus board under P8Zxx-V. well at least with Z77 they have a couple under $190 with SLI support though. good choice with the extreme 4.

Yeah, I have had 3 Asus boards and 2 ASrock ones, and although there hasn't necessarily been any problems with the Asus boards, ASrock seems to offer comparable quality with more features at a better price.
