Thread Starter
The description kind of says it all, I suppose. Looking to complete a 990FX build in the next month or so. Microcenter has the 1045t for $100 and the FX-6100 for $120.

I intend to purchase this weekend before all the Phenoms sell out, mainly because they're discontinued now so if it's the CPU we all decide is the better option I don't want to miss the chance, so we have to figure this out by Friday. thumb.gif

If you vote I would very much appreciate at least some reasoning. Benchmarks would help. I'm particularly interested in memory throughput. Processing power is kind of secondary to maximum RAM performance. I will be playing BF2, Dirt 3, Skyrim, and doing some (very) mild audio editing / production.

So I guess that's not quite as simple as the first sentence implies, but whatever.

Thanks for any and all help as always.

This, plus FSB overclocking is nice! thumb.gif
The 1045t is cheaper and better... makes it hard to suggest anything else. Just up the clocks on it a bit! biggrin.gif

You could try and find a 960t? It should unlock to six cores, and it's got an unlocked multiplier. But really anything from the Phenom II line is better than a FX-6100.. It's only three real cores rolleyes.gif

I'd normally vote for the Thuban, since it is simply more powerful.

But since you want memory performance, go with the FX.

What Lorded means by "get a FX-4100 until Piledriver" is you don't spend much if you want to get something better than FX or Phenom II.
