Memory speed DOES have an impact on fps. As you can see pow3rtr1p is aware of this fact too.

If you are convinced it doesn't. then bully for you! Cram a bunch of crappy slow RAM in your rig and call it good.

Personally I am trying for the very best I can get from my humble rig, and I get it. thumb.gif

And with this I bid you gentlemen goodnight!

FX-4100 sucks, but memory did help it some in the FC2 "Action Scene" benchmark (cpu bottleneck area).

Personally I feel the OP is disillusioned into wanting the extra memory bandwidth for whatever reason. It is not a necessity and it will not improve his overall user experience. There is no need for the extra bandwidth aside from "because I can" or "I do a lot of heavy duty rendering work". You have an improvement of less than a single GB/s. In terms of percentage that is UNDER 10%, in terms of practicality, it is negligible. That 10% improvement in memory speeds means nothing. The loss of raw CPU power will be far more detrimental if the OP gets a 4100.

EDIT: I can, based on the above post, which provides at least some evidence, that the 4100 is helped by faster memory; but that will in no way outweigh the performance detriment from having a slower CPU overall. For reference please see any benchmark with the 4100 vs a 960T/1090T

I wouldn't spend more than $100 on any AMD CPU at this point.

The only reason I bought an FX-4100 was for something to play around with, and I'm glad I didn't invest much cash into it. I'll probably get the cheapest piledriver as well biggrin.gif

Always minimizing my losses when I take a chance: Phenom I 7750 -> Phenom II 550 -> FX-4100 biggrin.gif

How come the benchmark you posted that was supposedly proof positive that the 1100 is better shows the OPPOSITE?

440

12 GB/s is better than 10 GB/s here in reality. In some parallel yet OPPOSITE universe where Old& Slow is better than New & Fast your reverse logic might hold sway. Here it does not.

Are you aware that since you are in an opposite universe that if we touched there would be another BIg Bang and the Universe would reboot?

Nice AIDA score Frosty. I have the trial version so not all of the fields show. I see that your memory read is a whole 10,000 MB/s. That is pretty good. Mine is 15,000 MB/s. Thanks for proving my point my good man!

@ Damric, I have to tell you that I am absolutely flabergasted that you go on and on about how "memory speed don't matter in games" and then you post benchmarks showing that it DOES matter. Are you so deeply delusional that you have convinced yourself that true is false? Cmon now.

I am not suggesting a specific thing what is better, i am suggesting the overall performance of the cpu, so the memory and cpu speed.
I highly suggest that you first look at the picture before making such irrational comments. and you are the one that needs to prove itself, i already proven what my 1100t is capable of, you only make bad arguments about the IMC of the FX cpu in question. nevertheless will my cpu dominate yours. and besides the fact that you run a quad core and i have a six core how could you ever make such statements that are not valid in my opinion.
