7600GT problem...

Thread Starter
I got my 7600GT a few months back, and it worked fine upon arrival. Now however, whenever I try going into games, the screen freees and I have to hard reboot to get back in windows. Im assuming of course that this is somehow my 7600GT's fault. I have the 91.47 drivers, and its not overclocked anymore, and it still does it. I cant RMA because I removed the black cover over the HSF on the card to get better airflow over the fins. Help me figure this out guys...

No games makes for a VERY sad toad...

You can try lower your clocks even lower than stock, that might help.

See if you can get the cover back on the HSF and RMA it

Actually.... will EVGA even care that you messed around with the HSF?

Send them an email asking

check the temps under load, (use ATI tool, test for artifacts), try a different set of drivers, put all your OC settings to default (ie.CPU and Ram)

EDIT: Wait u broke the HSF?

Even if you broke the HSF I'd send them an email asking if it would be okay to RMA

Can you post a pic of what you did to the heatsink? Maybe we can see something wrong with it that might be causing problems. Definitely sounds like overheating of the GPU.

I did this while the hsf was off the card, I simply removed the plastic cover off of the HSF, NOT broke the HSF itself, I had to snap one of the screws off because I hollowed out the philips head groove with the screwdriver I was using. No damage has been done to the HSF itself, just the cover guys. I can't show you pictures because I just found out also that for some reason my camera is broken... ATI Tool is reporting in at 70*C steady under scanning for artifacts. This is at stock clocks. Think I might try reseating with some new AS5 and see if that helps. Maybe the other day when I was cleaning everything I jarred the HSF or something, I dunno. Just odd that NOT OCed and still locking up. The card was fine before I just wanna play some VTMB
