you'll need to secure the chip to a movable surface. something like a slab of plexy glass. then have the dremel fixed in place like a drill bit on a drill press.
run the drip around leaving a little bit of the lid still attached to the chip.
also doing it this way you can still secure it like you would have with the socket before doing all that.
That sounds very easy to kill the chip with.

I second that unless you have access to a mill and know exactly what you're doing.

I think Intel should just bring out a line of these chips with solder used, for overclockers. I bet that they would increase sales to some degree.

under the lid there is a lot of room to work with. i would do this way before ever trying to stab it apart.

Can't wait to see some more. I've been thinking about de-lidding a 3770k as well.
That's why some go with a closed loop cooler. I'm switching to a Corsair H100i. Closed loop is pretty secure and if something happens that isn't the result of modding, I'm pretty sure Corsair will cover it. Mount waterblock and radiator and boom you're done.

Damn, not very good to hear that already using the 3770k makes it harder to open frown.gif.

Damn you Intel. Now I know why my past 5 pc's were AMD, even if you have the superior product you're such rotters putting such poor quality product in something meant for overclocking.

No, I don't need to think again because we aren't discussing the same product. You're talking about the Corsair H100, I'm talking about the Corsair H100i. The H100i is the same thing but they don't make the H100 anymore because it's defective. The new H100i uses much better components. Also, I'm using it now btw, it looks very robust and I don't ever see it leaking.

I finished my delidding and uploaded everything. I also wrote a lengthy synopsis of what I did and encountered with delidding and also lapping the heatspreader with sandpaper of varying grit.

“But our trip was different. It was a classic affirmation of everything right and true and decent in the national character. It was a gross, physical salute to the fantastic possibilities of life in this country-but only for those with true grit. And we were chock full of that.” [Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas]

Sorry. I couldn't help it.

It's on the delidded Ivy Bridge club official forum, I just posted if you want to check it out plus pictures, my videos are on youtube under shamanik1320 if you want to see a video of my finished setup. 16 fans +1 in the power supply so 17 in all.

Corsair 400r case
Corsair H100i closed loop radiator and waterblock w/ SP 120 performance edition in pull and
fans it came with in push configuration, on a Delidded i7-3770k w/ Coollabs Liquid Ultra on both sides of heatspreader. Lapped heatspreader on both sides as well.
