Games taking a LONG time to load...

hey, i built a spankin' new pc exactly 2 weeks ago and everything has been perfect. until yesterday. i have played a lot of skyrim and installed many mods. the game has started to load a LOT slower now. takes around 30 seconds or more to start the game whereas it used to be about 5 seconds. entering houses etc is also taking way longer than it used to. i tried GTA IV and had the exact same problem. the game took an age to initially load.

what could the problem be? i have overclocked my 3570k to 4.6GHz and have noticed in loading screens the multiplier remains at 16 - 1.6GHz.


specs:

intel i5 3570k
8GB vengeance ram
evga gtx 670 ftw
windows 7 home premium

if you need any other details let me know. very strange and i hope to get this fixed!

Can you save this overclock profile in the BIOS and then put everything back to stock?  I want to see if it's the overclock.

i reset the cpu to default values and both games are taking forever to load still. i had tried uninstalling all mods for skyrim first before trying gta and it didnt change anything. i've also run a system restore which restored it to the 9th - 2 days ago. the problems started yesterday.

i am running windows 7 home premium.

SSD wouldn't hurt at all but I don't think that is his only problem. What hard drive do you have, is it at least one of the blacks and not a green or blue drive?

edit - also how did you achieve your 4.6 overclock? what settings did you tweak?

This one is beginning to seem over my head.  All I can think of is that there must've been some kind of change that was made yesterday which was supposed to be good but ended up being for the worse.  I mean, like perhaps an update or something.

Although as I first read it, it sounded like it had started loading slower since you loaded up on mods. But you are saying it was loading faster before even with the mods?

If that is the case then you may be having HDD issues of some kind or there is a background program that is hogging resources. Would be good to run some sort of HDD benchmark utility to make sure the drive itself is performing up to par.
