[NeoGamr] DayZ mod for ArmA 2 now has 420,000 players

Eurogamer.net reports today that DayZ's creator, Dean Hall, told an audience at the UK Rezzed event that the mod now has 420,000 players. That number is expected to jump up to at least 500,000 by the end of July.

About 10,000 concurrent players are online playing the mod on average, and it reaches 22,000 concurrent players at its peak. According to Hall, "We now have 1000 servers. We're getting 110,000 players in a 24 hour period at the moment." He also said that he has lost five of those servers due to overheating issues.

Actually, at the time of this post, the unique player count is at 506,473! Didn't see anything about this posted yet though, so I figured I would because it just goes to show you that it is still possible to get by on the quality of the game and not by creating something we've seen over and over again in an attempt at gaining mass-appeal by sticking with what we've already grown tired of. Be original and look what can happen with a $0 advertising budget thumb.gif

Now all we need is half of those players to actually play normal ArmA 2. ArmA 2 is one hell of a game, and having that many people playing it would be amazing.

Guess I'll just wait for ArmA 3 and hope most of the DayZ community will stay in ArmA 2 because it seems a lot of them are the "I don't want to buy a game just for the mod, screw the original developers who could even make this possible, God forbid me supporting a company that still supports it's mod community" type of people.

Without a doubt.

DayZ for the upcoming Arma 3 would be sweet.

I know sales went up 500% Post-DayZ. And Arma2 has been #1 on Steam for who knows how many weeks, which I'm not sure if it ever was in the Pre-DayZ days.. I too think it's kinda funny actually tongue.gif

The gentleman that created the game works for Bohemia, and his new job is to manage DayZ. I bet you will be forced to buy Arma in order to use the mod.

I agree with most of this though I think you should take into consideration the addictive factor of DayZ.

I bought ArmA 2 just for DayZ in May. However after playing DayZ for the entire month of June, I decided to give ArmA 2 a shot. ArmA 2 is a robust game with many mods, and it's a damn shame if you don't try them out. Especially the Warfare and Life servers (which are only mission files so no mods to download, just stock ArmA 2/Op A). I will buy ArmA 3 regardless of DayZ being ported over or not, because DayZ made me a fan of ArmA 2.

Honestly everyone else should support Bohemia Interactive in this way because they are doing what should have been done with video games for the longest time; Making video games that don't suck. Give it time, people will filter over into ArmA 2 eventually.

Also Takistan Life is the Bees Knees! thumb.gif

Bought Arma II just for DayZ and love it. I haven't played in a week or so but hey, easy to pick up/put down. Great experience and I'm not surprised that it's doing well.

As far as some of the above comments-- DayZ for ArmaIII is already being worked on as well as deciding if it's right to go standalone(which I'm sure it will).
