Removing Black Border Around Monitors in Multi-Display Setups

Thread Starter
I was wondering, as many have likely already asked - how hard would it be to remove the black border on a monitor - leaving the actual LCD / LED monitor exposed?

The thinking behind this is that when you go to physically place the two or three monitors side by side - the gap will be virtually seamless.
Is this bad for the monitor?
Would it look like crap due to the black border being all screwed up?

What do you guys think?

Eh I have as of yet to see a setup that looks great like that - honestly when gaming in surround mode your mind blocks out the boarders [at least when I had a surround setup it did] - I would get monitors with the smallest boarder possible see how it works and then go from there. It is possible to use them without the boarder, you just have to be careful not to damage anything.

For me, i would rather go through the work of having absolutely no border and a hairline thin seperation between the two screens. That way you really really can't tell something is there.

I think the issue with this is because of the backlighting, which is usually in the bezel. You're screen would be horribly dark.

Take apart a screen and investigate how the panel is constructed. Most panels I've had apart (laptop screens) are constructed in a stack with a metal frame around the outer edge. This panel composite is usually what a manufacturer buys to install into their laptop or monitor casing. It is very simple to just remove this part from the casing. The outer metal is usually around 1/8" wide where the addition of the casing is usually a lot thicker. You would need to build your own case for it, but you could easily mount several panels edge to edge and have a far thinner gap between them.

No matter what, you wont get a 'hairline' thin border. Saw a guide here once, of one who did it with 3 22" i believe, the bezels were still 0.5 cm if I remember correctly, meaning you would still have a gap of 1 cm. Just a headsup that you wont find a monitor where you can get no bezel at all, there will always be a bezel. Unless you get one of those tvs with crazy thin bezels at crazy cost.

True that. The only way to go completely bezel free is to use some sort of projection setup. But to minimize it, strip the panel out of all the extra plastic.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1143724/3x-120hz-eyefinity-portrait-setup/0_40 <--that is the best de-bezeled setup that I've seen. Still a small gap there but its a huge improvement over most multi-monitor setups I've seen. I would consider it, although unless you had the same monitors as that guy then your results would probably be different.
