Trouble rolling back driver for 6970

Thread Starter
Hey so the long and short is that I have an XFX 6970 and when I uninstall my drivers and reboot the CCC is gone but I have 11.12 drivers still detected via MSI Afterburner(not set to start with windows during the uninstall/reinstall process). Here is where my trouble occurs: If I install 12.1 preview or anything latter than that the install goes through fine. However if I try and install 11.11c which is the driver I prefer to use, as it was the best one for my card for the games I currently play(mostly BF3), I get an ugly mostly black desktop when the screen refreshes during the installation process and I cannot see anything and thus have to do a system restore.

I follow the steps in this guide: http://www.overclock.net/t/988215/how-to-properly-uninstall-ati-amd-software-drivers-for-graphics-cards

I can roll back from 12.6 etc back to an older version but attempting to go back to 11.11c is just impossible no matter what I try. I am currently using the 12.1 preview as it works best for my card with what I have access to driver wise. I guess I am wondering what I am doing wrong or if anyone has run into a similar issue.

I would suggest a format, followed by installing the exact drivers you are wanting to use.

Ya figured that would be the answer...was trying to avoid it. I ordered my rig custom from ibuypower and they installed my OS but I never got a windows disc. I guess I will see if a friend has one I can borrow.

Try following Thracks instruction in my thread. I had issues and have the same cards. It fixed all of my issues. Also sorry you got shafted on the disc from iBuypower. they have a horrible rep and avoid ever buying from them or cyberpower in the future.

I would just wipe everything like the instruction say until it says generic vga device in the display device screen and then install 12.7 with the 12.7 CAP 1. I have been using it for several days know it is works great.

No harm giving it a try as I see you have the same card just crossfired how is that btw? Do I need the CAP1 for Single GPU afaik that is just for crossfire? Also could you tell me your Core Clock speed on the MSI cards mine is 880. Thank you for the input biggrin.gif

I have the exact same MB and RAM and a Corsair 750 TX PSU only an i5 2500k however.
