AMD’s x86 Microprocessor Market Share Continues to Soar - Page 2

In fact, Intel can shoot down AMD right now if it wants. Throw in a little early 45nm, cheap pricing, ahh the list goes on. They're ALREADY making AMD do backflips and cartwheels, AMD is scrambling for a solution to the problem, herein dubbed "Core 2 Duo + Quad", Seems like they're the ones afraid, imho.

Well after losing year after year to AMD in performance they have suddenly started working alot on their architecture and they are decreasing the time before releases for new platforms, along with finally getting a HT competitor, CSI.

But see, if Intel has their big guns out right now, and AMD is still gaining market share, what conclusions can be made? Mine are many people still think of AMD as the gaming king, and their servers are still thought of to be more proven then Intel's Xeon's, and with AMD agressive power saving feature (a.k.a. CnQ which I think doesnt get enough recognition for being good IMO) they get notebook sales off of that. Some people buy purely on price per battery life, and Core 2 duo takes more power than the Core duo.

Intel has a good hand, but they havent played their hand perfectly. They should have cut off Pentium-D manufactoring earlier, and eased Core 2 more easily onto OEM's.

Its a good point, but, with every maker of a product (especially ones as big as AMD and Intel), they take a good look at their hand before making a play. As its been stated, the OEM market is far larger, and a majority of what drives that market is public awareness. Advertising on the host companies part plays into this, and if sales are going up, AMD is obviously finding a way to slip these procs to the consumer. Its not a bad thing, Core 2 Duo IS fairly new so that can be a possibility. Merom probably hasn't even been out for a month (I'm pretty sure, correct me with proof if im wrong). On behalf of that, if AMD can pull in enough funds to make a great architecture with 65nm, im all for it if its nice and cheap. After all, the basis for any Intel vs AMD vs Etc.. argument is price/performance, right?
