Can some one explain the different satas?

Thread Starter
Hey I've seen like Sata 6gb/s and sata 2.0 and sata 3.0 can some one explain these? because I had my SSD installed in one port and it was kinda fast but not to fast, and then i went from a 2500k to a 3770k and I reinstalled a new motherboard and put my ssd into a different port and the thing is going SO much faster. I know this for a fact because it used to take windows like 5 after the windows flag logo finished animating (and kind of just waving) to load up windows. Now the flag doesnt even have enough time to form and windows is already loaded up, (like windows is done loading when its still just 4 balls of light about to join together and form the flag).

Which sata is the best for an SSD ? and whats the difference between them? If you are to lazy to explain ill accept a good guide to read too tongue.gif

SATA 6 Gb/sec is SATA 3.0 and SATA III.

SATA 2.0 is also SATA 3 Gb/sec and SATA II.

They just use different names, but I think they should just pick one name and stick to it.

All the cables are the same. SATA II introduced the locking mechanism to stop the cables falling out of the ports but other than that no other specs changed.

no, all sata cables are the same, i personally like the ones with the metal clips on them however.

them writing 6gb on it is like monster saying that their cables transfer video or audio better. it's all just a marketing gimmick to drain your pocket.
same with gold plating fittings. copper is more conductive and passes current with less resistance than gold. the only thing better than copper is silver, but i highly doubt you would ever see silver plated connectors.

SATA revision 2.0 or SATA 3Gb/s are the same. This type of connection is capable of transferring data at a rate of up to 3 gigabits per second.

SATA revision 3.0 or SATA 6Gb/s are the same. They are capable of a data transfer rate of up to 6 gigabits per second.

Right now, the best type of connection for a SSD is SATA 3 or SATA6Gb/s, because it is capable of the fastest data transfer rate. When you changed your drive connector, you probably changed from a SATA II to a SATA III connector.
You need to consider the controller as well, a lot of boards come with two and one of them is normally terrible compared to the other even if it appears to offer a faster maximum SATA transfer speed (especially for SSD's). If you can, stick to the Intel controllers.
