Is it going to feel worth it? Dell Ultra Sharp - Page 2

I have the U3011 and a 120hz monitor.

I like both, but the immersiveness and resolution of the Dell is incredible.

Quite happy with my Catleap Q270. Great color, huge resolution, good PPI, no dead pixels, no defects, aesthetically pleasing, no bezels splitting up my screen, and barely any bleed. Not great as far as inputs go, but that cuts back on input latency so I can live with that. Really my only gripe is the stand, but I consider the aesthetics more important. Still, if I had a wobbly desk, I'd be constantly reminded that I have a wobbly monitor.
That's about the only bad thing I can tell people about the Catleap, and it's mostly due to my choice of tempered glass which I believe isn't an option this monitor was designed to offer. The glass is a bit more reflective than that which you get from Apple, though, I will say.

I absolutely love my Dell U3011. If you do decide to go that route be sure to call then to order and ask them to discount the order.

The easiest thing to do is check the Dell Canada site and see if it has a discount, they'll usually match the price. Otherwise just tell them that you won't pay full price because you don't feel it is worth it. I ended up having $500 knocked off my order (got the 5 year warranty too, $1100 total). I've heard it helps to call late in the month but I called mid-month, took 3 calls to get it.

Good luck. biggrin.gif

i really like the crossover...but how are you guys playing games on such high resolution? Isn't that a pretty big performance hit over 1080p?

I mean...either you need high-end SLI/Crossfire...or you need to upgrade gfx card often to maintain 60+ fps in most modern games....no?

That's the main reason i haven't gotten a Korean monitor yet....i only upgrade once every 3-4 years.

Thoughts?

That's what I did. Upgraded from a 570 to a 680. I keep getting close to the RAM limit on a few games and actually hit it on a couple. Solution = little to no AA.

Awesome info guys. Though I have to admit I'm feeling a bit confused. Some say the sells are terrible others love theirs. Are the issues with the dells maybe something that only an uber enthusiast would only notice?

I like the idea of saving a ton of money on the Korean monitors, but that kinda sketches me out. Is there a system in place to return a doa?

well no AA at that resolution is fine...but how often do you think you'll need to upgrade gfx card? that's more of my issue with these high resolution displays. Any decent $300 graphic card today can last 3 years easy on 1080p w/ good fps....but on 1440p...that's a different story.

That's why I had to go to the 3gb 580's. With surround at 5760x1080 I would run out of vram in some games.

I upgrade fairly constantly anyways. The 680 can hold its own quite well, I've only got a couple games it can't max (other than AA) right now. Knowing me though I'll end up upgrading to the 700s or 8000s when they show up. I generally keep hardware for like... a year, maybe 2. My monitors, mice and keyboards are the exception.

Another nice thing about the high Res is if you have to play a game at 1080p they still look really good. tongue.gif

If it's within your budget, I definitely think the Ultrasharps are worth it.

I found myself putting in a lot of screen time at work and would get these outrageous headaches after a couple of hours. I did a little looking around and found some folks that claimed that an IPS panel is easier on the eyes. I started out with 2 U2311H's, soon added a third, and picked up 3 U2410's a couple of months ago, so you could say I think they're great. I can now spend 8, 10, or 12 hours in front of them and don't suffer any. I don't know if it's because of the IPS technology, the CCFL backlight, or the AG coating, but I just know it helped me a lot.

As far as the AG coating, I think it's something you have to experience for yourself. Personally, I much rather prefer the finish over a glossy display. I still have several glossy monitors at home and at work, but they don't get much use. I can't stand the reflections.

Someday I would love to go with a 27" or 30", but I'll need to get a bigger office or build an addition onto my house... rolleyes.gif

I have read all the threads on the Korean monitors and think they look interesting, but personally I feel better buying something that has a better track record and warranty. I did have a very small issue with one of my U2311's when it first arrived. The DVI port was crooked. I don't even use that port, but it bothered me so I called Dell at 2pm and had a new one sitting in front of me at 1130am the next morning. It gives me great peace of mind to know that the support is good outstanding.

Just my 2c worth...hope it helps,

Rich
