A brandy new X850Pro AGP

Hji guys, been a while since I posted here, hehe...

Well anyways I just reccently cooked a 6600GT after 2 1/2 years of REAL abuse(Stock cooling, oc'ed core to 574 from 500 and the mem to 1324 from 1000, mem finally went bad caore is still god :X). Well, decided to go ATI for my last ever AGP card, and went and bought an X850Pro from newegg. Its generic ATI brand and is insane compared to a cruddy 6600.

My main question is that the thing runs HOT compared to nVidia cards ive seen. it runs just under 90 degrees load and 70-ish idle, is this right? Was seeking some expertise in cooling for this card, ive looked at this -

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835186129

and was unsure if theres anything better for the price? Maybe a Zale or something, not that I dont trust arctic but I LOVE zale stuff. Another fan question would be if I were to set the fan to spin at 100% in ATI tool if that would bother the fan with the hours that I run the card(hours on end, sometimes all day).

And finally, it has 12 pipes, is it possible to unlock it to 16? Ive read that the R481 chips supporting VIVO can be unlocked, which mine is.

Thank alot...
Splody

For some reason, I've been reading that X8xx cards and 9xxx cards run really hot w/stock recently. I thought I was about to fry mine when it hit 86C That's why I went out and luckily ZZF had a sale on VF900s and picked one up for $35.

I dont know it the 481 core can be unlocked. I know the 480 (X800GTO2) can be unlocked to a X850XTPE.

My card is a Ati x850pro and it has very cool temps 40 idle and like 55 load and yes your card can be unlocked to 16 pipes only if it has a yellow cd audio plugin on it next to the power plug in. Look in the facts section here there should be a couple of guides of unlocking your card

My x850 runs about the same temperature you mentioned, but it is overclocked. I only see 90+ when running ATITool benchmarks to post up here in the sticky thread.

Idle I see 55 core and 45 memory. Under normal gaming load like EQ2 I can hear the fan switch between 75% and 91% which is the 80/81 degree boundry for the core temperature.

I need to find a quieter CPU fan, the video card is silent compared to the darn Dell fan.

First of all if the temperature of that card is not interfering with any other components of your system then you are fine. Those cards can run all day at those temperatures without skipping a beat. As for the fan thing just set up different profiles in ATI tool with different clock and fan speeds. For example when you go to game load the profile with your overclock and 100% fan speed then when you are just surfing the net underclock the card to 200/200 and turn the fan off. That is what I did with my x850.
