Well anyways I just reccently cooked a 6600GT after 2 1/2 years of REAL abuse(Stock cooling, oc'ed core to 574 from 500 and the mem to 1324 from 1000, mem finally went bad caore is still god :X). Well, decided to go ATI for my last ever AGP card, and went and bought an X850Pro from newegg. Its generic ATI brand and is insane compared to a cruddy 6600.

My main question is that the thing runs HOT compared to nVidia cards ive seen. it runs just under 90 degrees load and 70-ish idle, is this right? Was seeking some expertise in cooling for this card, ive looked at this -

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835186129

and was unsure if theres anything better for the price? Maybe a Zale or something, not that I dont trust arctic but I LOVE zale stuff. Another fan question would be if I were to set the fan to spin at 100% in ATI tool if that would bother the fan with the hours that I run the card(hours on end, sometimes all day).

And finally, it has 12 pipes, is it possible to unlock it to 16? Ive read that the R481 chips supporting VIVO can be unlocked, which mine is.

Thank alot...
Splody

i agree with you, this card pwns. that being said, i doubt your card will unlock
because all new radeons are being laser cut now, they wont unlock, like mine (yes, my card is r481 w/ vivo
but with a aftermarket cooler, like artic silver, you can overclock above xtpe's speed. my temps are 35-39c idle, 55-60 full load. oblivion runs at 25-30 fps with everything maxed + bloom x6 aa, at 1152x864 resolution. Source games run all maxed.
have fun

Shift click the options button on ATI Tool and check the fuses to see if the card can unlock.

Also use ATI Tool to manualy set your fan speeds for better temperatures though an Artic Silencer will do much better.

Im gonna be evil and bump here...

My final question is if those are good fuses for an unlock, could i just do an XT instead of an XT PE and still get the 16 pipes? Ive really only ever had experience with nVidia cards so stick with me here...
