In less than three days, Ouya has raised roughly $4 million on Kickstarter from more than 30,000 excited backers. A discounted reward tier of $95 in exchange for a finished console and controller was capped at 1,000 donations and sold out on day 1. Over 25,000 backers so far have pledged $99, all of which will be rewarded with an Ouya console and controller sometime before it ships to stores. Five backers have pledged $10,000 or more, which underscores the excitement surrounding this project. What exactly makes Ouya so special?

Unexpected and shocking even.

Wow that's a ridiculous amount of support. Looks like this thing is going to be more popular than I imagined.

The killer feature here is Android itself. All the things you can do to any Android phone or tablet, you can do on this device and then some. Imagine CyanogenMod 10 on this sexy piece of Tegra 3 kit.

I'm really looking forward to this project. The console market has been stale far too long and it would be a win for us with competition. As for the hardware is that a good set of components for that price? I'm not familiar with tegra 3.

This is going to FLY off the shelves, I believe as long as it is priced right and the games are the same it is going to give the other consoles a run for their money. Now while there isn't going to be any mainstream titles, with the console actually being dedicated to gaming and streaming, I think they will be able to produce better games on the android system and allow the market to expand that way.

Its only going to cost 100 bucks. They will allow you to upgrade and hack it to run it the way you want to as well smile.gif

$99? Free games?

I'm tempted to buy one.
