Hey all, I will be building a mini-ITX system very soon and, having never built one, had a few questions. It will be mainly an HTPC for watching HD video (local and streaming), but will also see some general PC use, like light gaming, torrenting, and light photo editing. The emphasis here is on cost
.
1. Should I go AMD or Intel? It's down to either an AMD A4-3400 (dual-core Llano) or an Intel Celeron G540 (dual-core Sandy Bridge). The Celeron averages 30% faster on the CPU side of things but the A4 can be overclocked by 20-30%.
2. Really small power supply? I'd like this build to be as compact as possible, so naturally i'm leaning towards a Mini-ITX PSU (or something with similar dimensions). Any reason I shouldn't? Any other websites that have a good selection besides NewEgg? Can I trust the cheap Mini-ITX cases that come with a PSU installed?
3. Remotes for a PC? The rest of my family, who aren't very tech savvy, will be using this for watching video (mainly Netflix, but some local stuff too). They can handle a remote but probably won't like a wireless mouse/keyboard/touchpad etc. Any recommendations? Are they limited to just Windows Media Center?
Thanks for reading!
