Because it is a CPU-performance test that includes overclocked versions of the AMD processors, mainly. And no, I'm not comparing different levels of graphics performance (I assume that's what you're implying), that's what the bench bubba linked was doing...

The Tom's test included all processors using the same video card. And even though I already pointed this out, I'll repeat it again here:

That must be intel's igp really "slaughtering" the 3870K in CS4 too right? rolleyes.gif

*shrug* Powertrip put together a decent build. According to Anantech, the GPU is roughly equivalent to what I put forth, but newer tech, so that's good. I'd prefer the build I put forth because I don't think he'll get much overclocking done without a an aftermarket heatsink & maybe better mobo, so I'd still take the g630 over powertrip's fx-4100. And the PSU I suggested doesn't have the quality issues of the coolermaster he suggested. But these weren't big enough issues to say something without being prompted. I gave the OP plenty of info on stock & overclocked fx-4100 vs g630 if he needed it, and if he went with powertrip's build, most of the time (possibly even all of the time, depending on usage pattern & the performance of the coolermaster PSU) he'd be as happy as with the (g630) build I selected. Monitor is also a wash, refurb vs. smaller.

@Bubba: As for the OS & motherboard, I provided a full windows 7 option which you are conveniently ignoring (with the g630), plus I specifically warned the OP about possible beta-type problems with Windows 8, and you can always get an H61 mobo instead if you're anti-open box. Not to mention you can easily drop the totals of either build I recommended by $40 by going to 4gb of RAM or a 500gb HDD. So frankly, there you're just quibbling because you don't like me.

But my build fits in budget (barely), and it is, incontestably, more powerful than an APU build in both the gaming CPU & graphics arenas (even in the g630 configuration).
I disagree that power consumption will make a difference. The build I suggested... might... pull 250-300w, which is very small in its own right and financially insignificant (as you're not going to somehow find a cheaper PSU for the APU & the monthly power bill will be essentially the same.
I could see an APU build, probably without the hybrid crossfire, if it allowed a better monitor to fit in budget. But there's not much difference between $100 and $140 monitors (that budget range is pretty much all basic TN monitors with little difference between them.
Ultimately, I just think the Intel route will allow higher frame rates and/or higher graphics settings without sacrificing much of anything while hitting the budget target.

Not even close. The "review" you listed was a 460 vs a 5770, a 6670 AND the IGP in the APU in crossfirex is MUCH faster than the 5770. Now you look at programs that don't use the GPU at all and the 3870 at stock speeds is only slightly lower than the i3, vs the dual core pentium it's not a contest.

Like I said, you can have your superior iTunes performance. I grant this to you. Heck, probably photoshop too. OP said he wanted the computer primarily for games. So I linked gaming benchmarks where CPU actually matters. That was my nefarious plan. DUN DUN DUN!

As for the 6770 (which is just a re-branded 5770) roughly equalling an a8 in hybrid crossfire... well take the Dirt 3, Crysis 2, BF3, and Aliens vs Predator benchmarks from this review (includes a8 GPU overclocking):
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/amd-a8-3870k_7.html#sect0
Edit: Don't worry, you can still claim superiority in 3D Mark Vantage...

If you have gaming benchmarks showing an a8 in hybrid crossfire defeating a 5770 or 6770, I'd love to see them. It might change some recommendations when the 460 come off sale in favor of the llanos.

Let me guess, you're going to say that hybrid crossfire in a system is slower than the GPU you add to the system to make it hybrid crossfire. rolleyes.gif

And he's calling the 6770 a rebranded 5770?? What? lachen.gif

Just because they have similar performance doesn't mean they are EXACTLY the same (which is what "rebranding" means).

Edit - Let's be clear here. It has the same chip but the 6770 has quite a few improvements to it.

5770 - HDMI 1.3
6770 - HDMI 1.4a

5770 - UVD 2.2
6770 - UVD 3

5770 - Blu-ray 3D decoding = no
6770 - Blu-ray 3D decoding = yes

Will a "gamer" notice the changes? No but it's a little more than "rebranding".
