$3000 Budget X79 Build! Recommendations?

As the title states, I'm about to build my new computer to update my previous one. The budget at MAX is $3000. I don't really know how you could go above that with anything reasonable, but if you do have a very good reason to go above it, then just say so. Although, I do have some parts already decided on that it would be very hard of trying to make me choose otherwise. My interests from greatest to least are of the following: design (such as Sony Vegas Pro, Auto CAD, 3ds Max, Maya and so on ...), "hardcore" overclocking (pretty much self-explanatory), gaming (Portal 2, legal emulation, Homefront, Elder Scrolls, Street Fighter, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, Hitman, Crysis, Batman, Battlefield, Deus Ex, Assassin's Creed, Tomb Raider, and basically just stuff like that), and the rest is just normal stuff like things that require low processing power such as Microsoft Word, Chrome, Youtube, and Internet browsing. Now that that's cleared out of the way, let's go on to the stuff that I've already decided on:

Motherboard: ASUS Rampage IV Extreme about $430

CPU: Intel Core i7-3930K about $570, but from other sellers, $510 or $520
or Intel Core i7-3960X about $1030

GPU: ASUS GeForce GTX 680 DirectCU II OC about $610 FOR ONE CARD (not sure if I want SLI yet, but if it gives an extra boost of performance and it doesn't detract from the quality of the other components because of the high price, then I guess it's okay)
or ASUS Radeon HD 7970 DirectCU II Top about $500 (same thing with CF)*
*Note - you can change the brand or edition of the GPU from ASUS if you want.

RAM: All I have to say for this is that it has to be from G.SKILL.

Now that we have that through with, let me just try to answer every question that can possibly come from you, that I can think of. Let's seee ....... include the peripherals in the budget cost ...... try to include shipping in the cost ........ try to get the best of the best for every other thing besides mentioned, but try to balance it out somewhat, but if that specific component isn't as important I guess you could make the balance a little uneven ....... I typically need a lot of storage, 2 or 3 TB? ........ don't make an SSD the main storage ...... yeah, that's all I can think of. No flame wars or trolls please! Also, try put in some research first!

Cpu: 3930K -$ 550 > 3960X not worth the money unless you are doing hardcore rendering and have cash to blow for epeen
Mobo: Rampage IV Formula - $350 > no need for the extreme unless you are running 64gb of ram or using a method of extreme cooling like chilled water. Really at the price range of this build you won't see any benefit from the extreme. I honestly wouldn't touch the extreme unless I was ready to spend $5k+ on a build.
Ram: 32 gb gskill 1866 -$240
GPU: 2x EVGA GTX 680 -$1000
PSU: Silverstone ST1000G $200
SSD: Corsair force gt 240gb - $224
HDD: WD 2tb black - $250 or WD 3TB green $170
Case: ???
Total: $2814 or 2734

The 3960k will not be a noticeable difference over a 3930k at all. Get a Dual slot eVGA 680, not a triple slot. The asus Takes up way to much room. Asus isnt the best brand for boards anymore, they have a bad rep at many places, go with a Gigabyte, or in that price range, eVGA would be great. You could have a Quadro for pro work and a GTX 680 for gaming, but, you would always need to unhook monitor from quadro to 680, or vice versa. A GTX 680 does awesome gaming and reasonable pro work, Quadro does awesome pro work, awful gaming, I would SLi 2 $500 eVGA GTX 680's. A Corsair AX850, Corsair HX850, OCZ ZX850, or Seasonic platinum 860w are my reccomendations for a PSU. For a case, a Corsair 800D, or any full tower from: Corsair, NZXT, Antec, or Cooler master would be good. Why does ram need to be from G Skill? Corsair makes great sticks to, but G Skill is a great brand. To cool the CPU to overclock, I would do a full watercooling loop. What montors do you have, and speakers?

This board, put simply, is epic.

This one is pretty awesome, to.

eVGA GTX 680 x2 (SLi is overkill, but if you wanna do it)

HX850

Corsair 800D

G Skill 16 GB Normally 16 Gigs isnt needed, but for pro work, you should have it. Probably overkill on speed, but it will help with pro apps.

XSPC Rasa 750 RS240 Awesome performance, all you need for just a CPU.

I live in Florida, I got those prices from Amazon, did you not see the links?
Also, my mind is pretty set on the ASUS Rampage IV Extreme because I plan to be doing some extreme overclocking such as liquid hydrogen or dry ice. Most of the world records were broken on ASUS boards, more specifically, the Rampage IV Extreme.

3960X is $1000
3930K is ~$600

$400 for a 1% performance or 50-60 points more in 4 digits score benchmark... big no-no.

3930K is way to go.

Yep, I'm dumb smile.gif

Heres a rough estimate, you can fine tune it by shopping around:

CPU - 3930K
Mobo - Asus P9x79 Pro or Sabertooth (I know you said Rampage Extreme, but I think these boards will do you well, and for cheaper)
GPU - Crossfire Asus 7970
PSU - AX1200
Ram - Gskill 4x4 1600mhz (faster if you prefer)
CPU Cooler: H100
SSD - Crucial M4 or Samsung 830 256GB
HDD - WD Green 2TB
Case - Whatever you like

I added this quickly to the cart in Newegg for a total and it comes out to $2655. You can probably save a bit by shopping around, and you need to add a case.

What benchmarks do you plan to run? That really determines the hardware to use.
