Hdtune results bad?

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I have a samsung F3 HD205HJ 500GB hard drive that I bought and am running on since December 2010. I do sometimes get weird stuff happening in windows like firefox hanging for a second and google maps is sluggish.

Everything seems okay on the smart readings apart from the communications error reading:

650

Here is my benchmark result:
650

What do you guys think? I think the sata controller on my old motherboard might have been doggy, and i was getting the same communication error. I am now am on a new motherboard + I am using the new sata cables supplied by asrock.

I have the same exact issues as you pulling up on a family member's computer.

Problem is, she has error messages popping up all over vista about the HDD's needing to be backed up.

Subbed to thread for further information.

You have a loose/bad sata cable, replace and see if the error counter stops increasing.

Yep, CRC errors do tend to be caused by bad or loose cables.

I changed the hard drive mode from ACHI to IDE and it seems to be more stable now. I changed the sata cables and sata controller (since I upgraded to a new motherboard) and the CRC errors are still the same so it might be a doggy hard drive?

I have verified that all the cables are in properly.

Google maps might be sluggish because perhaps of firefox performance. I downloaded google chrome and google maps is much smoother however I don't like chrome.

No. SMART data is a record of what happened. If it stops going up, the problem is solved, but it will never reset to zero. (That would defeat the whole purpose - plus, unscrupulous people would reset the data and sell dead/dying drives as healthy on eBay. tongue.gif )

Chrome has a better Javascript and Flash engine. It's way smoother/faster at everything.

Still, I couldn't browse the web as easily without all my Firefox addons. biggrin.gif
