If your terminal stops functioning properly that's a problem, I've had it happen a few times and usually I just shut out the terminal and open a new one. What happens when your GUI locks up? We can go into what if scenarios all day, do you really want to go there?
[edit] I've never had tab not work, I've only had my input text go blank like a password. The commands still work properly I just can't see anything except output.
