Switching out PSUs.

Thread Starter
My original power supply is dead(the one in sig rig) and now I've being eyeing the HX850, would it be enough for my rig(2x5850s, 1090T, SSD+HDD? the first PSU was an 1000W power supply. I took the easy way out and picked a cheap one.

if no one recommends a different PSU, would the HX850 be enough for 3+ years?

Thanks for any help. biggrin.gif

The hx650 would do tbh, but it nice to have have 850 because it will do for your next rig.

I'd grab the HALE90 750 for $125. Better PSU, alot less money.

Yes it's plenty of juice.

This HX850 is a good unit and will do nicely for your rig but you could get something cheaper that would also do the job.
Do you have any other requirements like does it have to be modualr or a budget ?

OCZ ZT 750 would easily be enough for your rig and it's fully modualr which helps with cable management a lot.
not to mention it's only $100 now and free shipping so you save good $70

Johnny Guru gave this PSU a very good review.

+rep!

I got a black phantom case that I will be using for a WHILE, so modular or not, it doesn't matter(it's going in that case), also I'm trying to not spend more than 200 dollars and the 850 got stellar reviews and generally satisfied all my needs. I'm going to try to use the new PSU for 3+years.

interesting psu, I'm going to put the ZT as a finalist

If you want something with a little more power you should also consider this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151108

SeaSonic brand speaks for itself , after all they make PSU's for Corsair which later on sell them with their own name slapped on.
Also it's not much more expensive than OCZ ZT 750.

Here's a review

Well if you don't want the best PSU mentioned thus far/modular isn't that important to you, go for the PC P&C 750 Silencer MKII $90, $60 after MIR. ($20 gift card brings it from $110 to $90)

Assuming you're overclocking those things I would say get a good 750 watt. The PC P&C 750 watt previously recommended is actually a mediocre unit at best. The Silencer MK III is a great line and are rebranded Seasonic units. Check out this thread and it will give you a nice long list of quality power supplies that will work great. Just check out the 700-799 section and aim for a 750 watt.

Here is a nice XFX seasonic rebrand that would nicely fit your build and at a good price too thumb.gif

Here is a nice Enermax Platimax 600w Platinum if you want a more efficient unit.

Here is a nice SILVERSTONE Strider 850w 80+ Gold for more oomph.
