I think it has to do with some people wanting I/O ports on the front of their case, and some people don't. I could be wrong, but that would be my guess. I'm sure Kevin can provide better info though.
It was mostly about letting the end user choose what they want or don't want. Kinda like a clean slate to allow more flexibility. We have heard mixed thoughts on it, but we think its specool.gif

You could choose your own custom I/O for the front. We sell a Silverstone 3.5'' device that will fit and it is displayed in this picture
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Your configuration might fit, but it would depend on a few things like;

1. How thick is the 560 and would you want to run it in push pull?
2. Can the bay devices be under the 360 in the Flex-Bay?
3. What type of 5.25 devices are you going to be using?

Lastly, even if I knew the answers to these questions I would still want to try it before I said yes. If you mounted a 240 in the front, then I'd say, yes it will fit. The problem is that there are just too many variables to know for sure. Because of this I intend to have a technical photo gallery like this, but it will take some time before I can get to the SMH10.
ok, so why don't u guys feature that usb 3.0 add on on the smh10 order page? i think it would clear up a lot of things if u make a note of that for future smh10 purchasers. also, does the smh10 also come with the front i/o plate that will fit the usb 3.0 mount, or will i have to order that separately? im going to order the white matte version, and im not sure if the silverstone usb 3.0 mount has a white version. if not, can you guys paint it to match the case?

the rads i will put in the lower chamber will definitely be no bigger than 60mm. im still deciding between the alphacool ut60 or the black ice sr1. i know the sr1 is a bit wider, and since the rads will be mounted sideway, i just wanted to see if i will have clearance. its ok, tho. when i do order the case, and when it arrives, i will be using the rads i have (ut60) to see what i can do before ordering mo' rads.

as for the 2 5.25 bays i will be occupying, it will definitely be a fan controller/temp sensor controller. idk if im going to be using 1 or 2 bays but ill see. anyway, thanks!

Saw this and thought I'd pop in and mention that I have some SR-1 560's and an SMH10.
My SMH10 is reverse ATX layout, but I'm assuming this would translate to the normal version
as well, otherwise somebody who knows different feel free to correct me.

If you place the lower SR-1 on the M/B side of the case and only run one side of fans (and
let's be honest: push/pull doesn't make much sense with such a low FPI rad anyway wink.gif) it
looks to me like you would have enough clearance to have a 360 radiator come right down
to the case's bottom. You would need to have the SR-1's outlets at the rear of the case
though.

I don't have a Flex-Bay radiator mount, but I do have a fan mount, and that fits easily into
the lower Flex-Bays with the SR-1 fitted to the side mount (and a 120 wide radiator is
narrower than the fan mount, so if that fits I don't see how a radiator won't).

Taking into account the vertical 360's end tanks, you should have three fully usable Flex-Bays
at the case top, and even if things get very tight you'd certainly still have two.

If you'd like me to do some concrete measurements or take some pics feel free to ask. smile.gif

EDIT:
Alternatively, if you go with reverse ATX you could actually mount a radiator to the case
top easily, see this picture from this build log:

Just food for thought... wink.gif

Putting the Silverstone device on the SHM10 and STH10 pages might not be a bad idea. I wont put it in the order specifications, but having a link on the page should work.

Hmmm I have an idea, we will be now offering the Silverstone USB 3.0 device with a color match option. It will be available in our matte black, white matte and gray primer for an extra $10.00

i really appreciate your insight. i have been following your helios build along with the ergo proxy. i will definitely be going reverse atx seeing the clearance it will provide using traditional atx form factor motherboards. really love how you have 2 560 rads in the lower chamber and your psu mounted in the flex bay area. as for the 360 rad in the flex, i will see what i can do, but i appreciate your kindness with regards to concrete measurements.

Having the PSU mounted in the Flex-Bays makes very efficient use of space indeed,
I really am very happy with that concept. And very true, for traditional ATX M/B's
you have a lot of clearance between the M/B's end and the case's top panel. I'm
sacrificing one PCI-E slot for my setup with the SR-2 (45 mm rad though), but I was
never going to use that anyway, so it all works out nicely. thumb.gif

Just let me know when you'd like to know something. I won't be putting the rig
together for at least another two weeks (my neighbour is taking a vacation, and
I need his lathe for cutting the threads into the pipes), so I can play around with
different setups at least until then.

my original plan was to go with a 560 and a 360 rad in the lower chamber, a 360 in the flex bay vertically with the ports up top, and a 480 rad up the top. seeing the ergo proxy build, it has definitely scrapped that plan. now im thinking of doing a setup like yours where i will mount the psu in the flex bay area, and put 2 560 rads below and a 480 up top. but i want to put a 240 flex bay up front with a 240 rad and the psu right behind it. my concern is the psu power cable. where do you route yours in the case? can u post some pics of your psu setup and how you have it routed please. thank you so much

Sounds like a plan.

For all the gory details on my cables, you can have a look at this post from my build log,
but the image most relevant to your question is probably this one:

aw--helios--2013-07-06--05--primary-cables-inside.jpeg

As you can see, I routed the GPU cable along the case roof (those nice holes in the frame come in very hand
for tying it up), and if you had multiple GPUs you could easily still do the same.

The biggest difference between my cable routing and what people usually do is probably that I have not
routed any of the major cables behind the M/B tray. Every major power cable I have is visible in that shot.

I considered going behind the vertical divider and back through the existing cutouts, but I would have
needed to make some new cutouts into the vertical wall right next to the PSU to get the cables behind
it, and I didn't really feel like cutting up my SMH10 like that. Also, the location where those new cutouts
would need to be are right where the HDD and SSD cages are, so things would probably have gotten
very tight back there.

With the cabling fetish I have, in the end I just thought I'd make the cables an actual feature of the build
and route them all in plain sight.

I'm assuming though that you'd go with a more or less normally sized M/B, so this problem would most
likely not be as tricky for you, especially considering that you'd have to plate the PSU somewhat farther
to the back of the case with the 240 radiator in the Flex-Bays (therefore not being in the HDD area
on the back side). I thought about putting another rad into the flex bays, but things would simply have
gotten too cramped with such a huge M/B, and as things are now, I'm pretty happy with the setup
(still massively enough rad power for my setup wink.gif). But with a smaller M/B you should have ample
space for such a setup.

For completeness' sake, this picture shows how I hide the back view onto the cables coming out
of the PSU:

aw--helios--2013-07-06--06--cables-with-reservoir.jpeg

As you probably know, CL make a PSU mounting kit for this kind of setup, but I just thought I'd bolt
the PSU right to the mid plate, saves me a few bucks and I don't need to have that massive vertical
strut in my case. The advantage of the CL PSU mounting kit is that you could mount the PSU at a
different height if you wanted to do that.

One thing I noticed when doing this: Custom length cables are more or less a must if you want to
avoid having to hide cables. Some of the stock cables were way too short, others were too long.
If you can hide some of the cables you could work with extensions and such, but custom cables
make this much neater than you could ever get it to be with stock cables and extensions.

I hope this helps somewhat, let me know if you need more info. smile.gif

EDIT:
Forgot to mention: I have not yet done the main AC power cable coming in from the outside.
I plan on making a small cutout on the case's back side for mounting a C14 socket there,
then routing an AC cable through the bottom compartment between the radiators to the
PSU (I've made a cutout in the midplate where the PSU power inlet and switch are). That
will allow me to simply plug in a power cable into the back of the rig as if it were a normal
setup.
