Hand sand or Sand blast?

Hey guys,

Well i'm about to prep my case for paint and I was just wondering if hand sanding the case would be better or sand blasting it with some fine sand. I also found soda blasting locally, and that doesn't look too bad but I don't want to damage the metal so not sure if machine would be the way to go.

Here is what I would be using if I chose the non hand way: http://www.socalsodablasting.com/

Opinions are welcomed!

Soda blasting is good. hand sanding is a real pain. Just make sure you wipe down the whole thing with acetone after sanding of any kind to remove the dust and stuff before painting.

sand blast + powder coat = about 120 total? so yeah, if you love your case then it's a good idea. I hand sanded mine personally. I'd love to get one of my future cases powder coated if I had the extra dough though.

Sand blasting will provide extremely quick results, hand sanding will be slow and tedious.

If done correctly they will both give you the same results. So I guess it depends on how 'hands on' you like to be. I'd save the cash and just hand sand it personally.

I got a quote and they wanted $195 to blast the case and the entire case didn't even cost that much. I'm going to talk to some family friends in the automotive painting industry and see if I can get something done for cheaper tongue.gif
