AMD release HD 7970 Ghz bios upgrade for Reference HD 7970 !! - Page 31

It worked for me, I have a reference Sapphire 7970. It failed the 1st time I tried it back when this first came out and ended up with a bad bios. Left it alone and let the card just work on the 2nd one, but it always bothered me that I had a none working bios on my card frown.gif

So today I decided that I will fix the problem, grabbed to be what seemed like an official bios, and tried it with winatiflash. That allowed the PC to post but windows was unstable. Either it never loaded and rebooted the pc or it loaded and said no amd drivers were installed.

Tried it again, this time I did it with pioneerisloud's bios, and flashed it in DOS from a USB. And it worked like a charm:

Thank you overclock.net!!

Didn't work 4 me... Just bought a HIS reference 7970 and flashed the exe from post #1 into it. BSOD on boot up.
Tried pioneers BIOS but BSOD also..

Put original BIOS back in and all is good again...

bad ...now both bios are corrupt, and i'm unable to keep video up for more than a minute at a time, after which screen darkens and mouse freezes. even does it in motherboard bios. anyone point me in the right direction to save the card? its the HIS H797F3G2M. the ghz bios worked for about an hour, then the fun began. now even setting the bios switch to the 2nd setting does the same thing. did the card take a dive?
tried card as a spare, but the override commands using atiflash from bootable usb fail...

are you reinstalling the drivers after you flash ?

Edit : nevermind if it is doing it in the bios then I guess you have a real problem. I just don't think it would do this from a flash so I'm wondering if you need something else done like reseat the card just in case. Also try a full power flush just in case like unplug the PC from the wall and hold power button down.
You can download your default bios from :
http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/
and reflash if you want. Some motherboards might want you to do a power flush and/or clear CMOS after you flash a GPU bios. Its worth a try. I had power weird problems with a USB hub before, so really can be other things. Check any other new hardware you have used.

guess what? it was my brand new crossover monitor, one of those from ebay, that failed right at the time of me rebooting...flash was super successful, posting here using my trusty dell, looking at gpu-z results. yay. really po'ed re the brand new monitor though...
looks like a bit of tugging on wires inside the monitor now has it up and running. what a combo. love me 7970!

Thinking of trying this with my XFX 7970. It's been a weird card so far because it's supposed to the be the stock version 925mhz(core)/1375mhz(memory) but default clocks on overdrive, afterburner, and GPU-Z are stating 1000mhz/1425mhz but it's not stable even with power control +20%. At stock it's fine though, i wonder if this BIOS flash could help me reach 1000mhz core clock?

Hey, I have Sapphire HD 7970 OC with Boost, the packaging says that it has dual BIOS, but how do I acces the second BIOS? Pardon my ignorance, but I really would like to know that before trying to flash the card and brick it... I could switch BIOS if that happened(right?)
Thanks in advance

Yeah, I would have never seen that myself, lol, thanks. BTW: How to restore a corrupted BIOS? Sorry, but I am noob on this matters, in fact, this card is my first high-end card, I'm afraid about OCing and flashing D:
