i advise you to go for manual voltage overclocking with sapphire trixx or msi afterburner. BIOS flashing is not required. you are already running at 1 Ghz. the HD 7970 Ghz BIOS gets you only 50 mhz extra. you could easily hit 1.1 - 1.15 Ghz at stock voltage. with voltage tweaking you could go higher depending on your chip. thumb.gif

And most of the time when you flash the ghz bios you lose your voltage control or its messed up bad. I run unlocked SAPPHIRE bios on both my cards that have no limits on mem or core.

Quick question...

I flashed to the ghz bios on both of my cards successfully but after loosing voltage control I thought I would flash back to a standard bios.

Admittedly I didnt backup my original bioses (one card sapphire and the other powercolour) but that was because both are on the techpowerup database.

I have since tried to flash back to about 3 or 4 different bios's and found that althought they complete successfully when I re-load the drivers I get black screens when the cards switch to 3d.

I have been forced to flash back to the ghz bioses which again are working fine.

Stock clocks run at 950, although I have never seen the PowerTune thing bringing it up to 1Ghz, I OCed to 1.150 Ghz on core and 1.5 on memory, but I had to tweak the voltage to 1.25V. Besides, I don't have the one the unboxer has, I have the OC with Boost version, which has the non-reference blue PCB... I also believe my safest bet is to stay as I am right now, but I am just looking around and see if I can get a little bit of improvement, and the dual BIOS thing encourages me to do so, but I am still quite unsure...

I had that happen alot when i first bought my 7970 it was used and they had flashed the ghz bios i had to try a few befor i found one worked right. I attached my bios im using on both my cards its a stock bios that has no limits on core or memory clocks and lets me control voltages on both my cards.

One of the 2 BIOS has 1 Ghz boost. use that one. max out power control to +20% and even at stock the GPU will run at 1 ghz. 1.15 ghz core clocks is decent. maybe if you use the second BIOS you can get it to higher speeds with 1.25v or even slightly lesser voltage. .

why do we loose voltage control ??? is this normal ?

Do you need the 12.7 drivers to use this BIOS? I've read that it is a requirement, but is it for sure not working on 12.10 or the beta 12.11?
