I think that in the end people just have to remember that the main advantage of a PC over a console is that I can pull the side panel of my PC case right now and install a 7970 if I want to, and I just can't do that to my Xbox. When the next generation consoles release it shouldn't surprise PC gamers if they have similar or identical graphics. The first year of their release they'll likely do fine, the problem is that consoles only come out ever like 8 years or something, and there WILL BE a point at which they cannot keep up with a PC. Consoles are disposable and for the most part computers are reusable, so to speak. I really don't care which console looks best because I know that even if the ps4 looks better than my PC I can upgrade, and anyways, hell, I want games to look friggin amazing! Let them shove i7 and gtx 690s into consoles (yes I know his is ludicrous and won't happen), they can put anything they want in there, just keep making progress! If they put in crap components and don't take the time to optimize they're only holding graphics back. I want the crysis after crysis 3 to look so darn good I don't have to get my lazy butt up and go outside to look at the world (my post is slowly losing focus and it might be getting ridiculous and it's too long so I'll shut up now=) sorry for bad grammar or spelling this was posted from an i777

Doubt it. They could make it with a similar huge HSF in the fat ps3 too.

I'd like to see the cooling design they will use in the new gen, correct me if i'm wrong but the ps3 cooling is like a big fan in a chunk of metal full of slices, that suck air in to push it downward to cool the heat pipes underneath it. Wonder what they will use for the ps4 and if they will go apu side..

The 360 is a block with fins and a heat pipe that pass tru them, then the fan at the back suck the heated air out with the help of a shroud. I think the next xbox will be like the slim one, it's more compact less complex to manufacture so less prompt to failure.

first thing Sony needs to do is not make the PS4 so complex to produce for. That is why all of the multiplatform games were running better on 360. A console cannot be a pc you know...
all you people with the PC is better talk, sure it is BUT why do you think sony and MS make consoles? because there is a huge market for video game systems that you just plug in and play they dont care about beating a pc they arent tageting that demographic... thumb.gif

Why in god's name would Sony even want to use Direct X? OpenGL works fine, and they have their own knowledge to make their own API as they have 3 times now.

And I'm sorry but AMD's x86 CPU will be trounced by the PowerPC CPU in the XBOX 720. Everyone knows RISC architecture is superior to CISC. Combine that with the fact that the games are customized to run specifically on the console hardware, and with specialized programming the X720 will benefit more, and accomplish more performance per hardware.

While that is true, any modern x86 CPU is a RISC CPU internally with a converter from the original CISC instructions.

... Really??? Wow.

So, would PowerPC rock an x86 CPU with specialized code on each, or no?

Am I right in saying we are better off without Direct X?

Sony could make an API that is specific to THIS hardware, and not need to worry about Nvidia cards.

Remember Glide by 3Dfx? Sony should go that route.
