[VGleaks]World Exclusive: PS4 in deep (first specs) - Page 21

Indeed they would be, I sometimes play consoles for the exclusives and the gaming community, everyones together and you can meet online friends in a game, I feel PC gaming is much more separed , not every game has online features with the additon of steam so you are dramtically separed from the gaming community, dont get me wrong Steam is good but It's not like PlayStation network or Xbox Live.

x86 / x64 wasn't the way to go. PowerPC would have been better. Heck, I think even SPARC would have been better. A new Cell BE would have been better. A CPU designed from the ground up by Sony would have been better. x86 is generic. It is not gaming focused.

Imagine what the efficient coding and development for consoles could accomplish if the hardware were gaming-centric instead of engineered to compile kernels and run MS-Office.

Sega DC, considered by many to be the best console ever made (not in hardware specs, obviously) used a Hitachi CPU standard no one had ever heard of. Sega DC was not plagued by a development curve that confused programmers.

Yeah, that came out in 1998. Try telling me that code wasn't optimized. It took PS2 years before it could make images of that caliber.

Can we at least agree there was no problem optimizating the code?

That'd work, except PowerPC, SPARC, MIPs, Cell, etc aren't gaming optimised either, they're (As far as I know, anyway) server optimised and just used for consoles...x86 is a great choice as developers have to use it all the time (For Windows) anyway, not to mention the original Xbox used x86 without any major problems stemming from that. There won't be any problems with optimising the code for it that stem from x86, all the consoles that had problems with that had real niche hardware (eg. The Cell BE, it's not really that popular other than the PS3) or just a plain weird design (eg. Atari Jaguar, N64, etc) usually with multiple CPUs and GPUs.

I think we've let enough timepass for everyone to have their say on this matter.

Thanks everyone
