Overdrive question (s)

Thread Starter
What's up all......... I have OCed a few graphics cards in my day, but they were all pre-ATI Overdrive Cards. I was wondering what this setting should be set to under the Catalyst Control Panel. I just installed my X1300XT card and set the core speed up a bit (request! LOL), but the "Current VPU clock" isn't going up. I know that I'm going to use ATI tool and Radlinker to OC, but I was just wondering... thanks guys>
Peace out

In ATI Tool you just have to move the silders.

I think that you may have misunderstood what I was asking.....I know how to use the ATI tool, I was just wondering if I should keep Overdrive disabled, enabled, or whatever. I was just messing around with the OCing section of it, I wasn't actually planning on using it to OC.

Heh...I am learning this overdrive stuff as well. Just got a X1950pro as many other people are. It seems just as good to OC as coolbits is for nVidia, but yeah if your not going to use it I'd leave it disabled. There might have even been an option to not install it, but I am not sure as I've only install the driver once so far.

I have ATI tool aswell, but I actually think the over drive is easier to use. The only thing I wonder about is that the auto overdrive put both my clock and memory nearly as high as the slider would allow...and if I put the sliders all the way up manually they will drop back down a hair after I hit apply. Makes me think the card may have more to give then overdrive lets on.

DO NOT USE OVERDRIVE !!!!

It loosens your card's memory timings resulting in lower performance. Just disable overdrive and use atitool. Atitool .25 Beta 14 works best for me.

Hmm yeah I am not caring at all for ATI tool so far. I reset the speeds in overdrive back to defaults and then fired up ATI tool .25 beta 16.

I set the clock and memory close to stock speeds for starters but when I hit "Set Clock" my display goes dark and never returns. Gave it 20 minutes and hit the reset button. I'll have to dig into this some more. Perhaps ATI tool doesn't work with the X1950Pro?

Doh! i click the "mem" button and I get a message...

"This card is not supported."

So it looks like over drive will have to suffice for now.
