Looking to virturalize android instances.

I am looking at doing an experiment which would require me to virtualize a number of Android VM sessions. I i could get some assistance in getting one running (ideally in VMware or Microsoft hypervisor in Win 7). I need to have it boot, internet access, and the ability to access the android market (gapps) and to be able to have apps installed, from what I've noticed from live environments which requires a fake sd card. I have been able to get a live session running but once i install it i get stuck at a grub menu from which i have no clue and i have no help from Google. SO this is why i'm turning to you fine people.

The computer im running this on will have no problem being able to operate this number of clients, although i would like to keep it to 2.2 for simplicity, but if i am required to operate a different v of android that is fine.

Here is a link to a pre-configured VM that someone set up to run in VirtualBox. You should be able to use it, or at least check it out and see what they did that you didn't.

Here is also an Android based Java client, using the SDK. I know a few devs who do something like this:

Either way, you will probably have to side load the Google Play store, so I would google for that APK. I don't know that you will be able to successfully run Android as the OS on a VM...considering the CPU in your virtualization host is going to be either x64 or x86, and Android is based on ARM...so I don't see how it could work.

i've been trying to get it running, that is what i can get to run in a live environment but once i install it to disk i get: android vm.jpg 60k .jpg file

I can't help you with VMware because I don't use it. Try using VirtualBox instead - I've had success with that.
