[Build Log] "Neutrality" - HAF 932 Mod - Revival - Page 2

Yeah, I don't really get the inverted form factor. It seems a bit pointless, and looks pretty much the same.

General mentality with case modding is that different/unusual = better thumb.gif I have to admit it can look damn nice, but compromising on the structural integrity of the case is a big no-no. I kind of cringed upon looking at this buildlog (not sure what's up with the black/white filter):

400

Without the 5.25 bays connecting the mobo panel to the front part of the case, the case is a lot less sturdy than originally. Additional support is provided connecting everything to the bottom by the HDD cage. The guy who modded that case removed all of it... cryingsmiley.gif reminds me of wobbly Ikea tables, although it's probably not that bad

Anyway, I will be removing MY hdd cage, but I will be replacing it with the NZXT 5.25 HDD cooler pictured in the first update thumb.gif Corsair 800D case feature come to mind? tongue.gif I'm going to try to see if I can connect it to the front of the case firmly. The 240rad will be right below it, so no matter what happens, I'm sure it'll still be as stable as a tank biggrin.gif or as stable as a Sandy Bridge CPU at stock volts tongue.gif haha

I dunno, I have my PC under my desk, so I prefer the rear I/O to be at the top, and the PCI at the bottom, but to each his own I guess.

Some stuff came up IRL, so I wasn't able to do any modding yesterday or today... and I also need to get a rotary tool, but I should get back in business within a week.
Mods on the list:

- Cut PSU tray to allow for better PSU airflow
- Drill and tap 6-32 holes to allow for proper 180-190mm PSU mount lengths
- Drill and tap extra 6-32 holes on the motherboard panel for cable management loops
- Cut bottom panel to allow mounting of 240mm + radiator grill
- Remove stock HDD cage and replace with Xigmatek HDD cooler (rivets)
- cut internal 5.25 tool-less notches
- mount 120mm radiator stand in 5.25 bay
- mount DDC stand in 5.25 bay

- more to come thumb.gif
I'm really not sure how long it will take to do all this (and more), so be prepared for a rather long worklog devil-smiley-019.gif we'll see though

45* is classified as "Black Nickel" whereas the 60* is classified as "Black Nickel Plated". The 60* has a slightly speckled finish, but it looks alright.
Also, I just looked at my invoice, and found out that I ordered a non-revolvable 45*, and not a non-revolvable 60* mad.gif not a big deal, I didn't have any specific plans with it, maybe they were OOS so they just gave me a free compression fitting along with the closest thing they had to a 45* non-rotary? tongue.gif The non-revolvable 60* looks like a revolvable 60*, it's just a bit shorter because it doesn't have the compression fitting thingy at the bottom thumb.gif

drool.gifdrool.gif Beautiful drool.gifdrool.gif

tbh, i like the 60 fitting better than the 45 one (it doesn't look very well as the 60, a bit weird but still great)

Not much of an update, but I got the PSU tray cutting planned out and I also got a little something in the mail today thumb.gif
In order to cut the PSU tray, I bought a rotary tool (aka "dremel"). I ordered a Black and Decker RTX-6 yesterday from amazon, apparently it's comparable to a dremel but much cheaper biggrin.gif a slight bummer though... I selected super saving shipping tongue.gif

as for the PSU tray... way too restricted.. so many slots that have no impact on the support of the PSU. I'll be cutting those out.
Also, the predrilled holes for the sliding bit are in the most retarded places, so I'll be tapping my own to fit 180-190mm PSUs (common PSU size).

Got a few 3M carbon fiber samples today as well!

I'm sticking with CA-421, maybe something else, we'll see...

The difference is subtle, but it's less glossy and "pop-out" like the other one.. which doesn't look too real..

I'm building my first mod w/ a HAF932 at the same time as you. Bought a B&D RTX-6 and used it for the first time today. Both that, and the B&D jig saw I bought really made me respect B&D as a company. Not to mention it makes DeWalt products now.

I hope you don't mind if I borrow ideas from you here or there. Though I basically have my whole build thought out in my head already and I don't see it changing much. It will be much more basic than your plans to save me some money.

Your one of the few work logs I'm following. Look forward to your work.

1am update. tongue.gif
Today I switched out the front activity (power+hdd) LEDs from the stock blue to white. It took more than an hour, lots of technical difficulties, including the fact that my 3mm LEDs were fat on the end and it required drilling out the LED tower a bit doh.gif

This is the top IO board thing

3 screws later

The LEDs I am replacing the stock ones with (in the black tower on the far left)...

LED tower out!

Time to get to business

Done....

And tested!

It looks blue in the picture, but it's really white.. I promise thumb.gif

My RTX-6 dremel should be coming within the week... now to play the waiting game..
