[TT] Sapphire TOXIC 6GB 7970 GHz Edition Review - Page 12

Did anyone notice the drivers they used? The heck are they thinking? And why are they sticking to older games? Shouldn't they at least test BF3, at the very least for the sake of relevancy.

I would have expected more from Sapphire TBH. A card that is clearly aimed at running 5x or 6x 1600p Eyefinity and they shoot themselves in the foot with something as simple as improper display outputs configuration. They should have 6x DP and just throw two DVI dongles and HDMI dongle in the box if they feel the card needs these for some reason. Its not like its budget card where 50$ higher price-tag (if they overcharge for these dongles) would mean a lot.

Totally agree. Not sure what Sapphire was smoking when they went with this output config. Completely negates the usefulness of 6GB of VRAM. The only output config a a 6GB video card should have is 6x mini-DP or 4x mini-DP + 1 DL-DVI.

You sir...took my statement out of context. I didn't say anything about Metro 2033 or state that BF3 is the hardest game to run. I noted it odd that BF3 wasn't included in the TT review and IcyPimpHand responding stating "Why? Battlefield is not very hard to run, there are a TON more games that run a GPu harder than a BF3". I still think it's hilarious...and totally wrong. BF3 is a hard game to run (netiher a GTX680 or HD7970 can run it on ultra at 2560/1600 and consistently stay above 60FPS...I've owned both) and there are not many others that stress a GPU harder...definetly not TONs of games. Moreover, it's one of, if not the most popular game on the market...it should be included in reviews imo.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

All three reviews seem a bit like paid as they very carefully avoid mentioning the issues raising from the display output selection (first one, "you can use at least three screens for gaming" while not mentioning that you cant really use more than three 1600p even if you want to) to the point of giving out outright misinformation (last one, "using MST hubs or daisy chaining DP monitors allows for up to 6 screens" overlooking the fact that neither of these options is available in reality and that even if it would be available even DP 1.2 does not have enough bandwidth to run 3x1600p off a single DP port unless you start dropping refresh rates to unnaturally low levels or give up significant amount of color depth.)

So by the sound of it the reviewers are not up to the task or are trying way too hard to please Sapphire to the point of just repeating the marketing talk without checking up if the advertised features are actually available in today's reality.

Wow, what the HELL. I didn't catch that, those outputs are completely and utterly stupid. 6gb would shine with 6 screens, why sapphire went this route is mindboggling.

Who cares about this cards outputs....all you need is FULL HD @ 60hz on a massive 480HZ HDTV, because that is all your brain and retinas can handle before they explode...think of the children tongue.gif
