Build for a friend

Thread Starter
My friends is a programmer, he needs a rig to run for under $350 that is effective. Please post your computer part list ideas, or opinions...
Well that's a tight budget for you rolleyes.gif

I'll assume your friend already has a monitor, OS (put the fun back into computing - use Linux, BSD), and doesn't mind an open case on a sheet of plexiglass. Also assuming that he wants to buy new online this was the best I could come up with:

Cheap but functional psu from Seasonic... needs a power cord

WD 500 GB hard drive on sale

mATX socket 1155 motherboard

G.SKILL 2 GB 1333 MHz ram... a dollar more than 1066 tongue.gif

Intel i3 @ 3.3 GHz cpu with HD 3000 graphics

Comes to $330ish before possible shipping although there likely won't be any. Don't think you pay any taxes in Florida.

For that you get a decent gpu, a quick cpu, and 500 GB of storage. He could always make a more complicated housing if open face ain't his style.

Edit: Using a screwdriver each time is a pain... this would add $4

Does he just need something to program on? Gaming? Anything?

Maybe a APU would work better for him?

Go AMD and buy used parts on this forum.
Look @ the official sales thread & try going on slickdeals
You can also try buying a barebone kit off newegg, that's what I did for my little brother I also recycled some old parts

He kinda does a lot of stuff...he designs models (hes a architect), but he does love a good game of mechwarrior (the new one). His monitor is old, 900p...
Then if he wants a dedicated gpu and new monitor you'd be pushing it new AMD route or no. I'd take GIVAH's advice and go used, that's what I'm doing with the current budget rig in the works. Even then $350 is tight as I'll be passing that once I get mobo and cpu.

Sounds like a pretty good case for an APU if there ever was one. I think Newegg has them 10% off till the 18th
