mobo overheating?

I just picked up Mafia 2, and twice now I have been getting artifacting followed by total game crash... now I haven't had any problems with any other game or anything until now, so I am not sure if its just Mafia 2.

Although, my northbridge and southbridge chips were EXTREMELY hot (almost burning to the touch)... Looking at my cooling system one may not be surprised though... Any tips with my current setup? I just ghetto rigged a fan with some zip ties but thats probably not doing anything besides pushing ambient air

Now please, I have been running my computer like this for around a year, and I have never had problems. I know the cable management is a joke, and I know there is some dust... But those factors really only come into play when squeezing as many clocks as you can out of your cpu, and were heat is actually a factor... (I could be wrong but thats my current opinion)

So yes, no overclocks, no nothing, just barley a case, and my room is around 75-80 degrees, if that matters idk... Question is, what can I do? Why is my mobo heating up, when my CPU and GPU are fine?

Could be simply a combination of dust and thermal paste needing to be reapplied. 80° is pretty hot in a room. Do you have all your fans pushing and pulling int he correct direction. does your side panel have a fan or a fan spot. add a few to it and that should help. Those cables really need to be grouped together better also. Thanks

My blue fan is pulling air out, out of the 2 fans on the top, only 1 is on, and it's pushing in, and I rigged a 180mm (i think) fan to were a side panel fan would be, if I had the panel...

Do you really think the dust and the cables matter?

I think that the cables matter at a certain extent. What you can do is put thermal paste under the north bridge and south bridge. See if that will work and if it does good job. thumb.gif

dude, a couple of better exposure shot in the room light could help...
reading the mafia 2 title looks to be pretty mean to both the GPU and CPU. so it
maybe just the game torturing your bridge heatsinks. do you have an opti bay
adjacent to the bridges, if so, you can wedge a 120 or 140mm fan to make a cool
wave to keep them cooler. the heatsink in the picture seems to be jetting case air
in and hot air against the bridges and RAM. an inexpensive cooler like the cooler
master 212 can help move that air heating off the brifge areas.. something to
consider.
